Oswald A. Zaffiri
Age 96, died peacefully on Saturday morning, December 1, 2018
Born in New York City to Alfredo and Amina Zaffiri who immigrated from Collecorvino, Italy. He was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Catherine (nee Giannini). He is survived by his sister Mary Canosa, brother-in law, Rocco Olivieri and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brother Fulvio (Phil) and his sisters, Norma Olivieri and Rose Schaefer.
Ozzie proudly served in the US Army, 11th Airborne Division, during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and several battle medals. Following his service, he worked as a pattern maker at the US Naval Shipyard in Philadelphia for 30 years.
He was a skilled craftsman and handyman and enjoyed making chairs, cabinets and other wood related items. He was always willing to help members of the family with many household repair projects.
During his life, he lived in Philadelphia, PA and Blackwood, NJ. He lived his final years at Cardinal Village Retirement Community in Sewell, NJ. He was very grateful for the care and attention given to him by the nurses and staff at Cardinal Village, especially, Irene, Rebecca, Mary and Laura.
Farewell Tribute
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Monday, December 10th at 10:30AM in the McGuinness Funeral Home - Washington Township, 573 Egg Harbor Road, Sewell, NJ where a service will be held at 11:30AM. Interment Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill.
