I only knew Mike a short time through his friends. He was very nice and could talk about anything. Very funny and personable. It is so sad to know he will no longer be here. He did love doing the many jobs and activities in his life. I never met his family but you could tell he was proud of them and loved them very much! RIP Mike Glad u saw the Birds win the big one!

I refereed a basketball game with Mike at Gloucester Catholic back in January. He seemed like such a great guy. He really did. We had a fun pregame and had just as much fun on the court that day. I heard he was an umpire too so I was looking forward to seeing him on the diamond too.
I hope he has a safe journey. Thoughts and prayers to his family whom he adored as per his obituary.

I will miss conversing with Michael. He had a neat sense of humor and was in my view the real deal. I am sad about his passing.

Dear Diane, Caitlyn, Michael, Brian, David, Eileen, Erin, and Jerry, I am so sorry for your loss and know Mike will be missed by everyone who knew him. In the late 80’s I spent many weekends with the Hughes family and a lot of time on the couch recovering from the night before. According to Mike I spent too much there, but he and I debated everything under the sun and I learned a lot from him. A good man taken too soon. Again, I'm very sorry for your loss.

Mike joined our youth football officiating group and made an impact by helping out whenever he could. He never said no. Always with a firm handshake and pleasant smile. WE will miss him as a man and as a football official. Rest In Peace Mike and thanks for sharing your time with us.

TO DIANE, CAIT, MIKEY, CUBBY, WINKIE, EILEEN AND ERIN: WE ARE SO SINCERELY SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS. WE ARE LOST FOR WORDS AS I AM SURE YOU ALL ARE. I KEEP STARING AT HIS PICTURE IS DISBELIEF. I AM SO GLAD I GOT TO SEE HIM ON SUNDAY. I NEVER EXPECTED THIS. HE WAS ONE OF A KIND: FUNNY, GOOD HEARTED AND A GREAT DAD. I KNEW HIM PRE MARRIAGE AND KIDS, AND NEVER WOULD HAVE PICTURED HIM AS THE PROUD DAD. BUT HE TRULY WAS, AND HAD EVERY RIGHT TO BE. THE ONE THING THAT ALWAYS AMAZED ME WAS THE AMOUNT OF FRIENDS HE HAD, WHICH IS A TESTATMENT TO THE KIND OF GUY HE WAS. HE WAS TAKEN WAY TOO SOON. MIKE WILL MISS SUCH A GOOD FRIEND AND JENNA WILL MISS HER GODFATHER. REST IN PEACE, HUGHSIE. YOU ARE FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS.

Michael was a true friend although I went to school with Brain it was Michael who I hung out with occasionally. I remember the first time I met him it was a local tackle football game at Vogt playground. It was my first time playing the game and I knew nothing about the game. No one picked me except Michael who gave me a chance. The other team kicked the ball to me and I ran the wrong way for a TD for the other team. As everyone was laughing at me he came over and said Joe I picked you because I seen your speed and next time run the other way into the tacklers. I said okay and then became the most dangerous little kid in the neighborhood and was then always pick in the top 3 because no one could catch me on kickoffs and Mike believed in me. I will truly miss my best bud even if it was only in short spurts of friendship throughout the years. Love you Michael always will and will pray for you every night . He was the big brother I never had growing up with 8 sisters. Jerry was also a good friend loss touch with him also until FB came along.
