Obituary of Cheryl L. Lloyd
Obituary for: Mrs. Cheryl L. Lloyd
Cheryl L. Lloyd, (nee Threapleton) of Woodbury, NJ went to her rest on April 4, 2019 after a courageous six year battle with ovarian cancer. She was 58.
Legacy
Cheryl was the eldest daughter of William and Shirley Threapleton and was a 1979 graduate of Paulsboro High School. She went on to earn an Associate Degree in Nursing from Delaware Technical Community College, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Wilmington University, and a Master of Science Degree in Nursing from The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
Cheryl was a medical professional who dedicated her life to serving others. She began her nursing career as a Registered Nurse at Christiana Hospital in Delaware, and later spent eight years as a trauma nurse at Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ. In 1994, Cheryl was selected for the highly competitive Our Lady of Lourdes Anesthesia Program, and in 1996 reached a pinnacle of the nursing profession when she graduated to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). After working for a year as a CRNA at Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia, she found a home with West Jersey Anesthesia Associates, where she worked for the next 17 years, rising to the position of Chief Nurse Anesthetist at the Virtua Hospital in Voorhees, NJ. She was one of an elite few of her associates who specialized in the increased difficulty and risk of providing anesthesia to infants and young children. The lives of literally thousands of people were positively impacted by Cheryl's medical skills and her compassion.
For seven straight years, she made medical missions to Guatemala with The Children of the Americas program, all at her own expense, and on her own vacation time. She provided the anesthesia services for the surgical teams that brought life-saving medical care to the indigenous population.
Cheryl wore the uniform of her country as well. She served as a Senior Nurse in the United States Air Force Reserve for eight years, rising to the rank of Major. In that capacity she provided anesthesia services at the military hospital at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
After receiving the devastating news of her cancer diagnosis, Cheryl was determined to return to the profession she loved. After surgery and months of chemotherapy, she did indeed return to her anesthesia job. Over the next few years, she suffered two recurrences, and after each chemo regimen bravely battled back.
During those periods when she was unable to work, she took on new challenges, enrolling in the Rowan University School Nurse Certification Program, and winning the Robert L. Donaghay Award as the top student in the program. She also completed a two-year program to become a Certified Life Cycle Celebrant, and officiated at the marriages of several friends and family members, including two of her sons.
For all her professional success, however, her most fulfilling accomplishment was being a wife, mother, and proud "Mom-Mom" to six rascally grandsons. For her, family was everything. Nothing gave her greater pleasure than organizing family get-togethers, and attending every school and sporting event of her kids and grandkids. She enjoyed antiquing and attending flea markets, traveling throughout the country in the RV, and spending time at her cozy shore house in Cape May, NJ. Family vacations to Europe, Hawaii, and Australia remain cherished memories.
Family
Cheryl is the beloved wife of 24 years to Douglas Lloyd; loving mother of Daniel Miller (Jamie) and Gregory Miller (Marisa); stepmother of Dineille Lloyd-Hedrick and Cameron Lloyd (Nick); doting "Mom-Mom" of Grant Hedrick, Jeffrey Hedrick, Jack Hedrick, Payton Miller, Bryson Miller, and Benjamin Miller; cherished sister of Linda Bradford (Buddy), Patricia Deegler and Jeffery Threapleton (Kim).
