Obituary of Richard F. Allen, Sr.
Richard F. Allen Sr., a resident of Woodbury, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019. He was 88.
Legacy
He was born in 1931 on Snyder Ave, Westville to Merretta G. Cattell (a direct descendent of local hero and legend Jonas Cattell) and Theron F. Allen, and was raised by his Great-Grandparents, Merit and Julia Gibson as well as his mother, Merretta and his step-father, Herman Weber. At 18 he entered the US Air Force, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant, and served in the Korean War. During his enlistment he received the Korean Service Medal, United Nation Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. In the years after his service in the Air Force, he worked on the Atlas Missile Project under General Dynamics. Later in his career he worked as a pipefitter for Texaco and Hercules. He also volunteered at Wheaton Village as a tour guide and with the Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling – having visited every state except Alaska, hunting, fishing, camping, metal detecting, and artifact hunting.
Family
He is the beloved husband of Patricia (nee Yearicks); loving brother of David A. Weber of Supply, NC and Susan B. Rodgers of Westville, NJ; devoted father of Richard F. Allen Jr. of Vevay, IN (wife – Toni Polis), Robert M. Landwher of Hampstead, NC (wife - Cynthia Leeds), Sherri L. Allen, Robert J. Allen of Houston Texas (wife – Paula Adamson), Ruth A. Tevis of Woodbury, NJ (husband – Andrew), and Ronda Vitale of Clayton, NJ (husband – Dennis); proud and loving Grandfather of 11 grandchildren, Great-Grandfather of 15 great-grandchildren, and Great-Great-Grandfather of 1. He was preceded in death by his mother, Merretta, his father, Theron, his step-father, Herman, and his daughter, Sherri.
Farewell Tribute
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing at 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM Friday, May 10, 2019 in the McGuinness Funeral Home 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury, NJ, 08096. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM in the funeral home. He will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Eglington Cemetery 320 Kings Highway, Clarksboro, NJ 08020 with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Memorial Home – Vineland 524 NW Blvd, Vineland, NJ 08360
