Steven Meck was my nephew who was an excellent teacher, runner, all encompassing Philadelphia sports fan, Styleista and therefore trend setter! Maan was he Fnin cool! He was one of the rare one's that cause you pause and say WOW, there is a soul whose personality recolors individual existence!
When we got together after a warm welcoming hug I’d be treated with a hello Sir, Captain, Governor or a number of other different salutations which was so refreshing unique and have to say clever!! He was always the brightest light in the room with his excellent wit and personality and WHICH was also helped with his clothing style choices. After the regulatory complaining about how bad the phillies or eagles are doing a beer would be produced, MAYBE a Guitar, and then back to complaining about the phillies and eagles with many laughs of coarse!!
In hearing from his many students at the funeral I’m so proud of Steven as a teacher! I can clearly see that he understood it takes a village and about all of US learning and being taught Every day! He obviously took that to heart and made a difference to many for "A person’s true wealth is the good he or she does in the world.” STEVEN MADE A DIFFERENCE!!
When Steven would say goodbye he would hug me and whisper in my ear "never forget the band". Never knew what this meant till I heard the many stories of him and the band and his buds.
Steven I won't forget the band and I will never forget you! Love you and may you be at Peace!

"You want a physicist to speak at your funeral. You want the physicist to talk to your grieving family about the conservation of energy, so they will understand that your energy has not died. You want the physicist to remind your sobbing mother about the first law of thermodynamics; that no energy gets created in the universe, and none is destroyed. You want your mother to know that all your energy, every vibration, every BTU of heat, every wave of every particle that was her beloved child remains with her in this world. You want the physicist to tell your weeping father that amid energies of the cosmos, you gave as good as you got.
And at one point you'd hope that the physicist would step down from the pulpit and walk to your brokenhearted spouse there in the pew and tell him that all the photons that ever bounced off your face, all the particles whose paths were interrupted by your smile, by the touch of your hair, hundreds of trillions of particles, have raced off like children, their ways forever changed by you. And as your widow rocks in the arms of a loving family, may the physicist let her know that all the photons that bounced from you were gathered in the particle detectors that are her eyes, that those photons created within her constellations of electromagnetically charged neurons whose energy will go on forever.
And the physicist will remind the congregation of how much of all our energy is given off as heat. There may be a few fanning themselves with their programs as he says it. And he will tell them that the warmth that flowed through you in life is still here, still part of all that we are, even as we who mourn continue the heat of our own lives.
And you'll want the physicist to explain to those who loved you that they need not have faith; indeed, they should not have faith. Let them know that they can measure, that scientists have measured precisely the conservation of energy and found it accurate, verifiable and consistent across space and time. You can hope your family will examine the evidence and satisfy themselves that the science is sound and that they'll be comforted to know your energy's still around. According to the law of the conservation of energy, not a bit of you is gone; you're just less orderly. Amen."

Although I never knew Mr.Meck that long, he was a down to earth kind of guy who always made others smile even on the darkest days. I remember the first day I met him, right away I was able to connect with him through his tattoos and knew what he was trying to get from them and his interests out of a few. His students had so much fun learning and not once was a day ever boring. He lit up the lives of the staff and students with his Halloween costumes and holiday clothing that won’t ever leave our minds. May he rest easy and god bless the family for this tragic loss, he’ll be miss deeply and always remembered.

Mr. Meck is actually one of the reasons I decided to study Biology. I had a love/hate relationship with it my freshman year until senior year came around and we joked about how I had decided to major in Bio out of all things in the world. He was an AMAZING teacher and was so passionate about teaching his students. One of my fondest memories of his class was when he had us each make a rap song about science and he had used Paint it, Black by The Rolling Stones. Thank you for introducing me to one of the things I love the most on this planet. Rest Easy Mr. Meck.

He made me realize my love of science, and is truly the greatest teacher I have ever had. Mr. Meck never failed to brighten our days with his corny jokes, interesting lessons, and labs. He was such a kind and genuine man, always offering help and advice in science and in life. I will forever be grateful for everything he has done for us. He will never be forgotten. I have lost my running buddy, my number one Phillies fan, my movie critic, my “Jack Reacher” book critic, the Best Teacher that helped me to become a Substitute Teacher, my “ who could make the funniest text message” buddy, my passionate Eagles buddy, my son.
I know Steven is up in Heaven and I am positive he is Teaching them about Biology. My Steven loved to read and learn and loved teaching even more. I hope that when St. Peter meets him at the Pearly Gates they don’t give him a hard time about his long hair or Tattoos! Even if they do, Steven has such a warm and convincing way of speaking, I can see the guys all putting their hair in “man buns” and rolling up their sleeves for tattoos.
I will forever miss my Steven but he knows that every race I run in, every movie I watch or book that I read, I will be thinking of him. My buddy, my love, my son.
Love forever

He always have great advice, and his door was always open for me after finishing his class. I remember visiting him a lot my senior year, and he even helped me on my decision to go to Rutgers. Here I am now having just graduated Rutgers, passionate about the environment and people. I think his course really brought that out in me as well. As I am retired and living outside the country I was hoping to catch up with him and let him know how much I loved his work with the kids of CHS. He lives forever in my heart and mind. Mr. Meck was my freshman honors and AP biology teacher, and I can't believe he's gone. The man I hung out with for hours after school almost every day, who inspired me to pursue biology, and who was there for me when I most needed support. I enjoyed many conversations with him, and I just wish I had seen him over winter break...we had plans to meet up in the summer, and I was looking forward to it. When I heard he had passed, I refused to believe it; I called and texted him multiple times hoping to get a response back, but of course no response. All I have left of him is a book he lent me, the texts we shared, and memories. I thought I'd share something he wrote to me:
"I promise to always believe in you, especially when you don't. Believing in good people is one act of faith I will never question."
