Obituary of Joyce E. Jacobsen
Joyce Eileen (Cogan) Jacobsen, nee Straw, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2019. She was 74.
Legacy
Joyce will be remembered by those who had the opportunity to know her as a truly funny, selfless, stunningly beautiful woman in every way. Her organizational skills were incredible. Joyce had lists for her lists! She was a lover of animals of all kinds, but took special heart to saving strays. Joyce took pleasure in cooking and filling the bellies of those she loved. One of her favorite past times was sitting at the beach and taking in all of its beauty and treasures.
After Joyce's children were grown, she completed her college degree in Education and found her true vocation working at Herma Simmons Elementary School in Clayton, NJ, where she taught the 1st grade for 25 years.
While teaching was her passion, her true purpose was fulfilled in caring for and devoting herself to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She gave tirelessly of herself, forsaking her own needs to ensure her family was happy and taken care of.
Family
She is the beloved wife to the late Gary C. Jacobsen; devoted mother to Christine Cummings (Paul) and Michael Cogan (Megan); loving grandmother to Sean (Nildaly), Matthew (Erin), Brian (Rachel), Joshua, Maxwell and Elizabeth; cherished great-grandmother to Cady, Leviathan and a special delivery due August 9th, Luna. Joyce is also survived by 3 special grand-dogs; Ryder, Louie and Derby and 3 special college friends that became her family; Ande Driesen (Russell), Jil Crawford (James) and Lori Lisa (Joe).
