Obituary of Robert C. Young, Sr.

Robert Charles Young, Sr., of Sewell, New Jersey, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2019.  He was 79.

Legacy

Robert, or "Bob" as he was known by his many friends, will be remembered as a caring and giving man.  He had a heart of gold.  Robert was born in Philadelphia, where he spent his early years before moving to New Jersey.  Later in life, he developed a career in insurance underwriting and sales and spent 35 years in the industry.

Robert was a fan of Philadelphia sports, especially the Phillies, Eagles and PennState.  He loved playing and watching baseball and football and when his children, Robert Jr. and Michael, were growing up, he never missed one of their sports games.  He followed his children so much that the organization that his children played for asked Robert to help coach, which he did.  He went on from coach to President to Head Coach with the Oak Valley Vikings in the 1970’s.  Robert reveled in playing a leisurely game of golf and during retirement, he was the starter at the Pitman Golf Club.  He also appreciated seeing a good movie, whether it was in the comfort of his own home or at the movie theaters.  Among other interests of Roberts, he enjoyed reading novels, particularly mystery novels, and comic books since he was a child.  He has read the complete Oz series and Nancy Drew series.  He was a fan of Agatha Christie, Ellery Queen, Marvel comic books and movies.

Robert looked forward to their annual trip to Rehoboth Beach with his wife Geri and cherished the special times they spent together.  He will be sorely missed by many family and friends. 

Family

He is the beloved husband of 58 years to Geraldine "Geri" Young (nee Zarrello); devoted father to Robert C. Young Jr., (Karen) and Michael A. Young Sr.; dear brother to Charles Young and Florence Baier (Jack); loving grandfather to Michael A. Young Jr. (Donna) and Tyler E. Young.  Robert is predeceased in death by his parents Charles and Catherine Young; sister, Jean Majka; sister-in-law Gert Young; brother-in-law and best friend, Pete Majka. 

Farewell Tribute

A Memorial Mass for Robert will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 11:00AM at Holy Angels Parish at St. Patricks Church at 64 Cooper St., Woodbury, NJ 08096.  Family visitation will be held from 10:30AM until 11:00AM with a Eulogy read by family before the start of Mass.
