Obituary of Ellen H. Cipriani
After a long illness, Ellen Hepworth Cipriani died on June 29, 2008 at Underwood Memorial Hospital in Woodbury, NJ. She was born in Woodbury in 1919, the eldest of four children of the late George and Viola Hepworth. After attending Woodbury High, Ellen worked for Campbell Soup Company where she met Joseph Cipriani, which ultimately resulted in their marriage of over 65 years, 7 children, 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
During WWII Ellen served her country as a jeep driver at the Keesler Air Force Base near Biloxi, MS. After raising her seven children, she worked in the accounting department of the Gloucester County Board of Social Services and was Chief Steward of Local 1085 of the Communications Workers of America. She also was active in local politics as a committee member of the Woodbury Heights Democratic Party.
Ellen was comforted with the support of her loving family including her daughters Joel Curran and husband Thomas, Donna Cipriani, Mary Cipriani- Price and husband Calvin, Lynn Saunders and husband Robert; her late son David Cipriani and wife Terri, and sons Jay Cipriani and wife Cindy, and John Cipriani.. Ellen will be remembered by her grandchildren: Andrea, Peter, Christopher, James, Nick, Bobby, Casey, Jacqueline, Ryan, Brittany, Jonathan, Angela, and Evan, and her great granddaughters, Aliya and Karson. She is survived by her sister Catherine Rubino and brother George Hepworth. She was preceded in death by her sister Viola Hepworth.
Visitation on Wednesday, 6:30 - 9PM at the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter Street Woodbury, NJ and Thursday, 8:45 - 9:45 AM at St. Margaret RC Church, Third and Beech Street, Woodbury Heights, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM.
Interment will follow at New St. Mary's Cemetery Bellmawr, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305.
