Obituary of R. Roy Leonard

LEONARD - R. Roy, Sr. a 40 year resident of Turnersville, NJ on May 9, 2008. Aged 79 years. Roy's love for family and music was a constant thread that was woven into the fabric of his life. He was born in Camden and raised in Collingswood. After graduation from Collingswood High, Roy entered the US Army during WW II and served with the US Army Band. He was employed for 36 years with Sun Oil Company, retiring in 1987 as a Sales Tax Administrator. Roy was an accomplished sax player who played throughout the area for much of his life. During his childhood, he spent many summers in Fortescue, NJ, which cultivated his love of fishing and boating. He was a member of the Haddonfield United Methodist Church and he enjoyed his membership in the Collingswood Cloud Lodge No. 101 F&AM. His family fondly remembers many camping trips all over the country. He is the beloved husband of 58 years to Marie nee Clark, devoted father of 8 children: R. Roy, Jr. Marie, Jeffrey the late Susan, Mark Melinda, Barbara Dudas Dwight, Julie Balkenhol George, Robert Eileen, Richard Deana, and Amy Safko Gregory; loving grandfather of 21, dear brother of Neva Aldridge, dear uncle to Patricia Martignetti and dear brother-in-law to Jim and Ann Clark, of San Jose, California. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing 6:30-9 PM and Masonic Services 8 PM Tuesday in the McGuiness Funeral Home, 573 Egg Harbor Rd., Washington Twp. Sewell, NJ and on Wed. 9-9:45 AM in the Haddonfield United Methodist Church, 29 Warwick Rd., Haddonfield, NJ 08033, where funeral services will be held at 10 AM. Interment with military honors, Gloucester County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of the Church at the above address.
