Obituary of James E. Conley

CONLEY—James E. a 40 year resident of Woodbury Heights on April 23, 2008, surrounded by his family at his home. He was just shy of his 80th birthday. A good man, who was dedicated to his community and family; Jim will be remembered for his kind heart and quick biting wit. Born in Camden, Jim served in the US Army during WWII. Prior to retirement, he worked for 32 years as a meat cutter for A&P Food Market. After retirement, Jim enjoyed working as a much loved crossing guard at the corner of 3rd & Central in town. He was a proud member and former Sr. Master of Ceremonies of the F&AM Paulsboro/Swedesboro Lodge #157. Jim loved being involved with community sports. He served as past president of the Hurricane Bowling League, Westbrook, as well as a popular baseball coach in Woodbury and Woodbury Heights. Camping, fixing things around the house and tending to his vegetable garden were just a few things Jim enjoyed. He is the beloved husband of 60 years to Hester known to most as Betty nee Sheilds; devoted father of Jim "Buckie" Libby, Betty Lee George, Ed Carla and Rob Kathryn; dear brother of Shirley English and Lee Conley; loving grandfather of Carrie Ann, Kristie, Belinda, Vicki, Darin, Toni and Angela and great-grandfather of Lester, Brandi, Brianna, Amber and Christopher. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Sun. 6:30-9 PM and Mon. 9-10 AM in the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury.
