Thom,
I read with terrible sadness news of John's passing in the paper. What a terrible and unjust end for such a fine man and brilliant mind.
I'm sure you don't remember, but we had occasion to meet once at a party where you attended with John. I was one of his early patients at Penn and followed him all over the city for his extraordinary care. John went to bat for me with the Penn Endocrine big-wigs in the late 70's putting himself on the line to pull me out of the clutches of the Dept. Chair and into decent and "caring" care. Although I had lost touch after his focus became exclusively HIV, I've never forgotten him and have thought about you both over the years. Thank God, the world is a somewhat more accepting place for pioneers like John. He will be sadly and truly missed, certainly by me. My thoughts and prayers are with you and his sons.

Thom,
Sorry we had such a terrible argument over something silly before you moved. I apologize.
John was a wonderful man. I will pray for him.
Take care,
Your old neighbor in South Philly-Pat
