I just found out, two weeks after. I'm shocked, and saddened. I worked at the Camden County Board of Social Services with Joe and considered him a good friend. He was a really great person. He'll be missed.

To the Colanero Family: I am so sorry for your loss. I remember meeting Joe at another family member's viewing/funeral. We had a very nice conversation about his journalism career and some of his very "touching" articles that he had written for the "Times" and I was fortunate enough to have read. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time. Take Care.

My husband Humphrey and I met Joe at a party organized by the Culinary Society of Philadelphia in the early 90's. We were profoundly impressed by his enthusiasm in helping others. By chance, we became cooking partners and supported each other in a variety of food events over the years. While I was working on my latest book "The Intriguing World of Chinese Home Cooking," Joe gave me some very helpful suggestions. When he promoted his new book "Down Jersey Cooking - Celebrating Our Heritage from Past to Present," Humphrey was also there to help him. Joe was a great friend, with all the remarkable human qualities. We are going to miss him terribly. Loretta, you and your family have our deepest sympathy!

Dearest Brother Joe:
While the news is still numbing, we
thank Our Lord for ending all the
suffering you've had to endure. You
shall always be close in our minds
and hearts.....Among my earliest
memories, are the times I took you
for walks around the block, when
you were about 4 years old. You
would get so excited, and that may
have been the beginning of your
life-long journey to discover,
learn and explore what was, what is
and what will be. You always said
it began with Mom and Pop.....Our
prayers and support go out to your
wonderful family - Loretta, Ann,
Jim, Cathy & Neil and grandchildren
Justin and Tyler. Rest in Peace,
Joe - I will love you forever.

Dear Uncle Joe, While there is sadness in our hearts, I know that you are now healthy, full of peace and watching lovingly over your family. Memories of you smiling as you talked about food, the focus of our family gatherings; the stories you shared about our family history; and, most of all the strength and courage you showed as you faced your illness without complaint. We love you always and will watch over Aunt Loretta. Enjoy that cup of coffee you promised my mom and I can imagine you now seated at the heavenly kitchen table with homemade pasta, meatballs and sausage, wine and you are joined with all the ones we miss here on earth but who are now embracing you with love and welcoming you to our heavenly home. Love you! Nanci Lou

A place with no pain, no fear worries. Clearly, the pain of going on without you belongs to the world. A strong presence missed dearly. But until the Lord calls us home to see you again, we will carry your memories in our hearts. The stories, the food, the life you lived. Now that the heavens hold you, May we remember you with every look to a summer sky or starry night. We know you're here with us. We just wish we could be with you too! My prayers to the family.
Godspeed Mr Joe!

My Condolences to all his family. May the Good Lord hold you in his hands now at this moment and always.
Joe and I go way back to High School days in Paulsboro. He was a member of a warm and loving family. My honor to know him and them.
Joe,Ed Natalie and myself were wantabee Amateur Radio Operators and went around visiting licensed operators for information and advice. What fun we had!
It was my pleasure of visiting Joe and Loretta a while back and knew he was very ill but he was the same warm and gracious person I knew years ago.
Maybe the blessings of heaven rest on your and all the Colanero famly in this time of need.

Mr. Joe, You will always be remembered as such an interesting man. My favorite memory is when we were sitting at Cathy and Neil's rehearsal dinner and you talked to me about the greatest things. I felt so important for that hour conversation. Thank you for that. May you feel the love that we have for you and your family,

Dear Joe,
I know you are missed by so many people. I have known you as Cathy's Dad, Neil's Father in law and Grand Father to Justin and Tyler. I think that says a lot about someone and the way they lived their life by the love of their family, and you have a wonderful family. You did a wonderful job and you will always be remembered.
Blessings to you

Dad,
It just hasn't hit me yet. You have always been incredibly supportive of everything Cathy and I wanted to do. I'm glad you got to visit in Key West and Hawaii - I'm sorry I was never there for it! You got to see the world, and that's quite an accomplihment. You've made an amazing family, and that's the best way to measure success. You're now going to the ultimate Elderhostel in the sky, all the cooking classes you can hope for! We'll all miss you and we love you very much.
