My favorite memory of Cathy was sometime in 1999 we were working together on a software implementation and we worked the evening shift together. Afterward we went to an all night restaurant and sat around eating cheese steaks and discussing life, the universe and everything! I remember deep discussions about her faith and devotion to the Church. Cathy was a devoted servant to our veterans and had a heart full of love. Be at peace!

My sincere condolences go out to all of Cathy's family and friends. I only knew her for a short time, but she always took the time to say hello and offer a smile as I passed her door. She was a special person and will be missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing her. What a wonderful legacy to know that so many loved, admired, and respected her as a professional and as a special human being. Ellie, Tom, Sherry, Brian, Mary, Matt and Dan:
Please accept my condolences and sympathy for your loss. Cathy was truly a remarkable individual whose legacy will forever remain in our hearts. I will always remember Cathy for her kindness, her constant smile even through times of adversity and her caring nature. From the moment I met Cathy when I moved to Philadelphia, she welcomed me with open arms and I will never forget that at all. From inviting me to spend time with her family during holidays when I was unable to be with my family to providing me with the much needed support during the recent loss of my father, Cathy was always there for me. Please know that as you deal with this loss that each of you will remain in my thoughts and prayers.

To Ellie and Cathy's children and grandchildren:
When I was a student nurse extern at MCP back way back in 1983, it was Cathy's responsibility to orient me to my role. I never forgot how kind and encouraging she was to me, as a 'rookie.' Years later, when we reconnected professionally, I was glad to be able to tell her how much her support had meant to me 'back then.'
Clearly, from all the folks who have written their memories and condolences, Cathy touched a great many lives. And we are all a little bit better because of knowing her and interacting with her.
I'm very sorry that she didn't have more time with her family, and with all of her friends and colleagues.
My most sincere condolences to Ellie and the kids.

Dear Ellie and Cathy's family,
You know, the thing I'll miss is that we had so much fun together. Cathy and I once did a project that involved checking to see how our VA staff were performing certain functions. We had such a good time snooping around and seeing what we could uncover. It was like a great adventure, and Cathy took it on with the twinkle in her eye that characterized everything she did. Now she's sharing the twinkle somewhere else. But she left it in my memory--a little gift from her--so I can still smile when it pops up there at unexpected precious moments.

Tom, Sherry, Matt, Danny, Brian and Mary, my thoughts and prayers are with you?.Cathy was so proud of her family. Ellie, I hope you will draw strength from us all?.God could not have blessed Cathy with a better friend.
Cath - It only struck me recently how long we have known each other. For almost 25 years, I have been blessed to know you and be the recipient of your unselfish support as I faced life?s challenges both professionally and personally. You were always there to lend a helping hand and your knowledge, from when I was a new nurse and we worked weekends together on 3 West to our many years together in nursing ed. You provided motherly guidance as I fretted over diaper rashes and stuffy noses, all the while you were trying to deal with the trials and tribulations of teenage boys! I will always remember you telling me don?t get too worried, the problems only get bigger as they get bigger. And when the teenage years arrived for me, I discovered you were right and you were there to listen and provide nonjudgmental support and wisdom. And more recently, as you faced the end of your journey here with us, you were yet again providing me with strength and prayers for my latest challenge. No matter what was going on in your life, you always had time to lend an ear and an encouraging word. Thanks for being such a terrific friend, confidant and mentor. - Fran

Dear Cathy,
My Mentor , my friend. This is very hard for me because you have touched me so deeply. You unselfishly gave of your time, energy and resources to develop me for leadership. What is so remarkable, is that you demonstrated leadership everyday and in every way for all situations. You showed me that there is always a brighter side and you always gave me support. We have spent the last six months meeting and talking to each other weekly of which I had grown accustomed. Now, I cannot come to your office, I cannot see the beautiful pictures that the boys drew, I cannot see the family pictures or hear the funny family stories, but, I do know that I can lift my eyes and heart toward heaven and talk to you whenever I please. Thanks for being here for me in so many ways. I will truly miss you. I thank God for you because I have truly been touched by an Angel.
I thank Elle, Tom, Sherry, Matt, Daniel, Brian, Mary and Cousin Tony for sharing you with me. I will never be the same. My prayer is that I can carry your spirit on for others to experience the gentle, kind, loving, graceful and thoughtful characteristics you demonstrated for me.
To the family, may God continue to bless you and keep you through this difficult time. Allow her memory to stay fresh and vibrant.

Ours is a stange job: we expect to see our charges age and decay, right through the end as a natural consquence.
It just seems so different when it happens to one of us, so not-normal.
Cathy grabbed the positive side of this change hard-hold, wheeled it around the halls, onto the elevators and out into public. This was the best part, in that we all got to benefit from her fight and from her continued contributions. There's a great lesson in that, and I thank her for that.

My heartfelt sympathy to Cathy's family. She was such a great person. We laughed and ate and learned much when we were at an ISO meeting. Cathy inspired me to keep trying to be a better person. I will cherish my memories of her.

As I think of Cathy, words come to my mind like "amazing, remarkable, extraordinary," yet I know she would be embarassed to hear herself described with such terms so I hesitate to do so. I think she would accept words like sensible, fun-loving and decent. Knowing that she is always good humored I think she won't mind if I describe her as amazingly sensible, remarkably fun-loving and an extraordinarily decent woman. I will so miss our late afternoon chats. My thoughts and prayers are with all her family.

Tom, Brian, Ellie and Family;
I am truly blessed that our paths crossed and to have had the opportunity to know Cathy. Only GOD knew that a relationship that started at MCP would continue at the VA! Her smile always provided light in darkness and served as a guiding spirit to those who were tired, lost or needed encouragement. Cathy always had a kind word or a look of support, and her presence seemed to create calmness and peace in the midst of "chaos".
I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers that your wonderful memories and the joy of the LORD might provide you with the comfort, strength, peace and love that you need during this difficult time.
With loving sympathy,
Phylis and Family
