Shoot me for posting twice, but I had more things to say about my mother-in-law. I am writing this for those who maybe didn't know Rita. I can paint a pretty good picture in a 2-step process.
Setp 1: Get out your Bible and read the 10 Commandments.
Step 2: Get out your Webster's dictionary and look up the word compassionate.
If you like warm, compassionate, loving, kind, generous, thoughtful, caring, devoted parent, devout Christian type of people, then you certainly would have liked Rita Schultes.
Son-in-law,
Matt Garrison

Mom,
Your crier -- is crying...and you aren't a phone call or a hug away. How will I cope? I'm not sure -- but I promise to try to do what you told me to do take one day at a time and I promise to try to do as you did -- have faith!
love always and always,
Your daughter Linda

At times like this, one of the sole advantages of being the oldest child is that I had my mother the longest. I have thanked God many times for this. I also never got over her not being at my house every night cooking dinner. It is also true in times like this that large families are the best and good friends are irreplaceable. I want to thank all the family and friends who brought my mother such joy and comfort. Bye Mom from your first.

Dear Joe and family,
I've know Rita since first grade, being one of the "North Woodbury girls"
She was always kind, caring and dependable.
We had fun playing hockey for "Bess"even when she yelled at us!!
That was a long time ago but I rmember those days with WW2 and all that was happening in the world;. we managed to have a wonderful time in high school.
I will remember Rita with fondness and admiration. She fought a brave battle.

I have so many fond memories of Aunt Rita...from summers at the shore, my graduation from the Prep School in Newport and she and Joe dancing at Rosecliff Mansion to the times she opened her house to me and many of my buddies during my time in the Navy. She always had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye and a warm meal on the table. Our thoughts and prayers to out to you Joe, Lisa, Nancy, Linda, Vicki, Matt and family.

After reading the wonderful, loving feelings many expressed in condolences for Rita Schultes, I am so sorry I never met you. But I have met and become good friends with your daughter, Vicky, and can only imagine that a lot of you is in her. She is the most caring, thoughtful, and giving friend and it sounds like that came from you and your husband. So, thank you, Rita, for being the best kind of mother, the best role model, and please know you are living on in your family! May God keep you close in his arms.

Words can not really describe how wonderful a mother she was and still is. Her love is still here and all her lessons and advice rings on in my ears and is felt in my heart.
In her final days, she still had concern for us. Her Rosary beads from Rome never left her hands and with no strength left she continued to pray. Her faith was strong and her love for my father was as strong. What more can a daughter have.

One if my first memories of Rita was when Matt S. and Joe played a joke on her at Matt and Vicky's engagement party that involved a hearing aid. She took it in stride and smiled as if to say,"Boys will be boys." I knew then that not only had my brother found a terrific wife but that he was marrying into a fun and loving family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Vicky, you have been a terrific sister-in-law and I think you learned from the best.
God bless you Rita.

Aunt Rita was a beautiful, classy and warm woman. She was always happy to see us when, as children, we appeared at their home on High St to visit and play with our cousins. She enjoyed life and fought to live. She is my hero and role model. I remember giving her a complement on how great she looked while going through chemo when she grabbed my arm, pulled me into the bathroom and took off her wig. It was a powerful moment and one of strength and humility. Aunt Rita, you will be missed. God bless you and the wonderful family who loves you.
Lots of love, Ann and Alan Sims

Walt Whitman about his mother.."the most perfect and magnetic character, the rarest combination of practical, moral and spiritual, and the least selfish, of all and any I have ever known, and by me oh so much, the most deeply loved"
I have such fond memories of Aunt Rita especially summers down at the shore. We sure had some fun times!! What a great lady!!
My thoughts and prayers are with you Uncle Joe and the entire family. God Bless.
Love,
Tracey

It was a great honor that Rita allowed me to participate in her medical care. She had great courage in facing all the obstacles and threats to her mortality. But more importantly, she knew how to live. She knew that each day was precious and tried to live them to the fullest. She always shared some happiness and love to each of us and not her fears. I will always remember her for all the little jokes we shared despite the enormity of the problems she faced. If you want to learn anything from her, live life, offer a little happiness to others, do not live in fear.
Thanks Rita
Art

My memories are many of the Schultes family since I resided in Wenonah back in the 1970's. I will share two of those memories that stand out in my mind.
Joe had invited me over to the house to play tennis with him and a number of other cronies on his tennis court which was located in the back yard. After playing number of sets, Rita wheels out the drink cart after having serveral gin & tonics and getting back on the court to play I noticed that there was more then one ball to hit. After missing the ball a couple of times I said to Rita, I can either play tennis or seat and drink but I can't do both. We all had a good laugh over how simple I was getting.
My second memory is one halloween I dressup in A big bird outfit and scared her sentless when I came knocking at her door.

During the 1997 Schultes family reunion my single-dad son ,Chris, brought his then 10 month old son, Jacob, to the reunion. At one point during the week we were at Uncle Joe and Aunt Rita's
home with lots of family members. Little Jake was overwhelmed with all the folk and commotion that our wonderful family can evoke and he was inconsolable. Chris couldn't calm him nor could I. Aunt Rita said "Let me try - I've had a little experience." Within minutes Jake was asleep in her arms - what a memory and relief at that time for Chris and me! Chris, Patrick and I are holding you in our hearts. Mary

We were all blessed to have known Mrs. Schultes. She was a true lady. Her home was always open to all of us...and we took FULL advantage of that! She served as a wonderful role model for us as a wife and mother. She will live on in her children, grandchildren and all of us whose lives she touched.

My mother, Rita Schules, was a wonderful mother. She was a classic dresser, never spoke ill of others, was always willing to be a "room mother" in elemenary school ok, I usually gave her only a day's notice and was always available to listen to my joys and frustrations. She taught me so many things that I pass along to my own students. I think of her all the time.

I'll never forget Aunt Rita at the last family reunion this past summer. When she was introduced, she stood up smiling with her arms raised - as if to say "I'm still here and I'm still fighting." And she fought to the end.
The following little saying reminded me of Aunt Rita and I wanted to share it.
Do not walk ahead of me, I may not follow.
Do not walk behind me, I may not lead.
Just walk beside me and be my friend.
She was a great friend and I'll miss her smile.
