I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the family of Mrs. Coursey. I was fortunate enough to have her as my 5th grade teacher at St. Joan of Arc. As I look back and rememeber my time in her class, it is with fond memories.

Please accept my sympathy on the passing of Mrs. Coursey. She was a big influence in my life. She was my 5th grade teacher at St.Joan of Arch School in Fairview. 5th grad is usually a transitional year anyway, and Mrs.Coursey was and has ALWAYS remained, 50 years later, my most memorable and favorite educator! God bless her and her family.

To Mrs. Coursey's Family
I join the other SJOA alum in sending my condolences and prayers.
Mike Ruiz is on target: what a great classroom disciplinarian -- with great compassion, delightful wit, and down to earth reality.
She helped shape my style as a K-12 educator, and now as a professor at Canisius College. Mrs. Coursey was a true educator and mentor.
In addition, I adopted a two year old pup named Tiny from her. I always guessed it was her dog that for whatever reasons needed to have a new home. Tiny gave us a good number of years of great joy, memories stories, and was a part of the family. Thank you for sharing him!
More importantly -- thank you for sharing such a graced woman with so many of us at SJOA -- we are better adults for having known her as children.
God bless you as journey through your grief.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the Coursey family in their time of loss.
I, too, wondered if this was "our" Mrs. Coursey from St. Joan of Arc's fifth grade, and, sadly, after viewing the previous responses, I see that it is, as Jim Asher and I were in her class together in '58-'59.
I remember Mrs. Coursey as being a strict, yet very warm woman, and I'm certain that anyone who passed through her class can hold nothing but fond memories of her.
She and her family are in my thoughts and prayers.
God bless you, Mrs. Coursey.
Sincerely,
Michael Costello

When I saw the notice in the Courier Post I wondered if this could be my former 5th grade teacher from St. Joan of Arc 1960-1961, Fairview Yorkship Village, Camden, NJ. After seeing the Asher post, I see that it is.
My condolences to the family on the loss of this wonderful person who I will never forget. Mrs. Coursey taught me among many things, the math trick of keep-change-invert for dividing by fractions that just last week I told my college students at UNC-Asheville and I mentioned her name to the class. Every semester I teach her trick to my non-science majors and remember her dearly.
Sincerely,
Michael J. Ruiz, Ph.D.

Please accept our deepest sympathy in the loss of such a wonderful person. Not only was she our 5th grade teacher, she was a special woman in her own rite! We have so many fond memories and will treasure them in our hearts. Love, Maryann and Jim Asher
