Uncle Ern,
I have been on this site, time and time again, trying to convince myself it is not real. I still can not come to term with this and I am not sure I ever will. 34 years with you was not enough. I could have easily spent another 50 and not blinked an eye. Mom and Dad are still depressed. I hate seeing them like that but I totally understand. You infected everyone you touched with a true life realization that things are the way they are, but you donâ??t have to necessarily like it. You were always like a second Dad to all of us Hassell kids the wolf-head clan. You would be proud though. Carter has been initiated into the pop in the fard club. Thinks it is the funniest thing ever. I am waiting for him to spring it on Dad. How classic to turn it around on the initiators. Carter asks about Grandfather Cartier all the time. He asks me when I am sad, if I am thinking about you. I am always thinking about you. I try to talk to Hass a couple times a week. She is in just as much
Denial as I am. I will always be there for her. Aunt Linda is literally working thru the pain. She keeps so busy with everything trying to keep her mind clogged up with anything but that. Self preservation, what a biatch. She will make it, we are here for her.
I love you handsome man. I miss you everyday.
Long Tall Mama
P.S.
You will always be like a good piece of Italian bread to me. Crusty on the outside, warm and soft on the inside. See I lobbed the yeast comment right up for you. Thought you would like that.

To all the family that feels the same as Johnny and I, We all know that Ern wouldn't want us to feel the way we do or to cry over him but you knew the man, and we all loved him and miss him. His Birthday makes it hard to deal with our loss. We love each of you and wish we could be with all of you. Not just to support you but to have your support.

What can I say Ol Hass we had such a great life with you in it. You were always there, From Great times to bad times we shared so much. From our trip to AC in the GTO flat tire and all. Vacations in the past and planing vacations in the future. We had a great time. I am glad that I was your Friend and family member. You will be missed more than you ever thought. We think about you everyday we laugh about things we did from fishing trips to sitting around and not doing anything but enjoying the fact that we all were together. There is a hole in our life, life will never be the same. Nurse Rachet just will never be the same.

They say only the good die young! In Ernie's case that could never have been more true! As a friend, fellow State Worker and occassional drinking buddy Ernie and I were close for many years. Ernie knew what he liked and what he didn't and was not afraid to tell anyone just that. Fortunately, for he and I he was almost always right! Through good time and bad Ernie was always a superior worker and dedicated friend. Over the last few years in my retirement I spoke to Ernie many time and will miss that now for many years to come. May God bless Ernie and his family in these most difficult of days. ERNIE! Say hello to Bill for me I'm sure he is there waiting for you

I was sorry to hear about Ernie's passing. My deepest sympathy to his family. I first met Ernie about 28 years ago when he worked with me on the NJDOT Woodcrest Station Improvement Project. Throughout his career Ernie was dedicated worker. He helped train many of the new inspectors along the way. He could always be counted on to get the job done right. May God Bless Ernie.

"God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you and whispered 'Come to Me.' With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best."
I found this poem years ago and really liked it. I thought you might like it as well. Our deepest sympathy to you and your family. With love,

Linda and Heather,
How empty is the space that is left behind of someone so loved. Ern had such a wit that he always made us laugh. I was just looking at pictures from "The Party" in 98' and there was Nanner, Bobbie, Ernie and my Craiger, all gone. How do we get through this? Just one breath at a time. Love You Guys.

My deepest sympathy to Linda and family. I had the honor to work with Ernie on the Rt 29 Tunnel project in Trenton a few years back.It was one of the best time periods of my 30 year career here at the DOT.The cool thing about Ernie was no matter how much he made me laugh , he was also teaching me at the same time.He was more knowledgable then anyone i have worked with and wasn't afraid to let you know it !! I spoke with him last week and we laughed about our time together and although i will surely miss him , i am proud to take a part of his knowledge about work and the life experience with me !
