I was very sad to hear about Bill's passing. I knew Bill only through my good friend John Marrama. He was gracious enough to get us tickets for minor league baseball games on occasion and even took us into the Reading Phillies clubhouse after one game where we talked baseball with Bill and Larry Anderson. I grew up in Pittsburgh and was a huge fan of the Pirates team Bill played on in 1979. I was thrilled to meet Bill those few times and even happier to see he was such a nice man unlike many professional athletes. God Bless.

Coach:
How do we say good-bye when we had only just begun saying hello? Jerry, Jonathan, and I will miss you so very much. As everyone who had the great privilege of knowing you has already said, you were always such a humble, giving, Gentleman. You treated everyone as if they were the President. And now YOU get to be treated as if YOU are the President -- of that I have no doubt. Thank you so very much for everything -- for taking Jonathan under your wings and for being our friend, for all the lessons, the games, Jonathan meeting the players, the laughter, the talks. It was an honor and a pleasure to have known you. You always told the kids to "look up to the Lord." And now when we look up, we get an added bonus: You smiling down at us. Never forget what I had the good fortune to tell you while you were still with us -- You are, and forever will be, MY HERO!
To Mary and family, our hearts and prayers are with you. We are so very, very sorry for your loss. If we, who knew him so little, are feeling this pain, I can only imagine the greatness of yours.

When I was a kid, Mr. Robinson coached a travel basketball team and chose me as one of his players. This was the late 1970s, and the most fun was when Mr. Robinson would drive me to the games in that cool customized van they had!!
I'll never forget his kindness toward me. He knew I collected baseball cards, and one spring day when I was about 13, I came home to a package from Florida. From training camp, Bill had sent me an entire box of baseball card packs. In 1988, when I was supposedly a grown man, I went to a game at Dodger Stadium when Bill was with the Mets. I yelled into the dugout like a fool, but he came out, greeted me with a smile and threw me a baseball.

Dear Mary and Family,
Both Jean and I offer our deepest condolences for your loss. The last time we saw Bill was at a Phillies game when he was with the Marlins. He had that same old grin I was used to seeing back when we were team mates. He gave us a ball for a little girl that was sitting in front of us as the bigger kids were grabbing all the balls that were tossed into the stands. That's the Robbie we'll always remember.
With deepest sympathy,
Mike and Jean Rogodzinski

Billy: I knew you many years ago from a mutual friend and family in Frank D'Occhio, and also from UMH. You may remember me from my married name at that time of Callahan. It's funny how you never forget friends even though you lose contact over the years. Never forget all the good that your dad did for so many people over the years, he was a great man.

Dear Mary,
?THE Coach? as my husband and son called Bill even though my son has had many, many baseball coaches, was a man of rare integrity and generosity. I am still mystified that Bill, who had experienced much racism in his life, had so much love to give to my son, a white boy. In my opinion, Coach Bill was probably the most important adult in my son?s life other than his parents. I feel blessed that my son had nine years under the influence of one of the finest human beings I have ever known. Thank you, Bill Robinson, and may God sustain your family with courage and peace.

We will all mourn the loss of this great man. Not only a teacher but a friend and mentor to all who meet him. I got to know Bill over the last 5 years through his hitting academy and was always insoired by the way he treated everyone he met. This past March my son and I traveled to spring training and spent some time with Bill at Vero Beach. Bill took the time to give us a tour of the facility, taking my son through the club house and introducing him to the players and then to dinner that night. Needless to say this will be a highlite of my sons life, as well as my own, and just shows what a kind and gererous man Bill was. He will be greatly missed by all of us. Bill rest in peace.

To: Cousin Mary, Bill, Kelly and Family. We your cousins Rev. Donald & Marlene Johnson and Craig, Karen, Iris, Mary and our Family would like to express our deepest sympathy at the loss of our beloved cousin Bill. Our hearts are deeply saddened at this time, but he will forever live in our hearts and we will treasure every memory of him. We want to tell a humorous story about cousin Bill. He surprised us with a visit one time and he brought with him one of the players for the Pittsburgh Pirates by the name of Omar, and cousin Craig got so excited that he told the whole neighborhood. As the neighbors lined up outside our house Cousin Bill and Omar signed autographs for everyone. We turned his visit into "profit" for the family just kidding. This was who he was and we loved it, and enjoyed every minute of it. May God give you peace and great comfort in knowing that he is with the Father.

I remember Bill as a real gentlemen. I played baseball for Camded County Collage in 1980 and got to know Bill. He came to some of our practices, which was a great thrill to me and my teammates to see and talk to a former major league player. I don't think many major league baseball players today would do that. I also played racquet ball with Bill and his Dad. I'm very sorry to hear the news. Cheryl Spaulding is a customer and neighibor of mine and told me the bad news. Bill probably would remember me from racquet ball.I was playing a game against him and his dad and I hit a ball really hard and it hit him right in the butt . He screamed and later told me he had a giant bruse on his butt. He was a class act. My condolences, Charles Seppy

Dear Mrs. Robinson, Billy, and Kelley,
I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Mr.Robinson. He was such an awesome man. Even though he was a "famous baseball player", he was always a wonderful friend first. He and Mrs. R were there for my brothers and me when our father passed away. It was very difficult for us, but Bill and Mary knew just what to say to help us get through that difficult time in our lives. I also remember as a little girl being downstairs in Bill and Mary's house and being in awe of all the baseball bats and such Bill had in his rec room. It was so neat for me. I also remember going to Indian Rocks Beach in Florida with the Robinsons. Boy, did we have a lot of fun. Thanks Bill for all the wonderful memories you provided for me. You and your family will always have a special place in my heart. My deepest sympathies go out to you during this difficult time. May God bless you all.

First I would like to express our deepest sympathy to Mary, Bill and Kelley. When I read of Bill?s passing, I was truly saddened.
Bill was certainly a kind and caring soul, with absolutely no pretense. From the first time I met Bill, he made me feel as though we were friends. He greeted you with a smile and embrace that was real ? that?s just the way he was.
As I prayed for God to be with you during this difficult time, I also asked that he would help me be the kind of person that Bill was ? that I could make everyone I touch be at ease, and feel welcomed. I think that is the best way we can honor Bill and carry his legacy, by treating everyone one with dignity, respect and love.

Dear Mary, Billy and Kelley,
Throughout the journey of our lives we have the opportunity to interact with many people. Along the way God allows us to be touched by men and women that represent the best of society. Bill was one of those rare men that impress you with his compassion, his genuine interest and his faith. My children were thrilled when they got to visit Bill in the Marlins locker room and pose for pictures. A gesture Bill did not have to take the time to accomplish. However,he did since he saw each interaction with young people as an investment. Greg and Mandy saw the kindness of a professional ballplayer who saw baseball as an honor. Jackie and I saw a godly man that we hope our children will never forget. You were blessed to have Bill as a father and a husband. We will join with many others in praying that the God that Bill served will be your hope and your comfort in his homegoing.

Dear Mrs. Robinson,
I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Bill's passing when I read the newspaper on Monday. I am Sal Velardi and my son Michael was an attendee at Bill's hitting camps for ten years. Bill was like one of the family. He was such a huge help in my son Michael's development as a baseball player and a man. We are going to try very hard to make it to the viewing if we can, but Michael is getting married on Saturday morning and the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner is Friday night. If Bill knew that Michael was getting married, I am sure it would bring a smile to his face. He was a great man and a gentleman, someone who made a difference in my son's life and we were so privileged to know him. We will miss him dearly.

In the mid 1970s I was a minor league player for the Orioles. The Orioles arranged for me to workout in the winter with the Phillies because it was near my home.
So one day I went over to the Vet. All the major leaguers were there, Mike Schmidt, Larry Bowa, Bill Robinson and many others.
Soon I found myself having a catch with one of the major leaguers. This player was standing very near me and throwing the ball as hard as he could. I couldn't say anything because he was a major leaguer and I wasn't.
Out of the blue, Bill Robinson stepped in front of me and caught the ball. Bill then yelled at the player to "Knock it off!"
Bill Robinson was always a gentleman - both on and off the field. Thanks for the memories.

Dear Family of Bill Robinson, The Hitting Extraordinare. I quote this as he said this many times.
My son and I have known Bill for the past 6 or 7 years via the Hitting Acadamy. My son can hit the ball and hit it well thanks to Bill. When my son's name was in the paper several years ago and we showed the article to Bill to "thank" him for his guidance, he made my son feel like he was the only one in the room by asking a simple question..."Can I keep this?". He highlighted his name and the info and nicely stored it away. I don't know whether he kept that newspaper article, but my son will never forget it. I will never forget it and more importantly he'll never forget how Bill took the time to also teach the boys about life and God in his message to the youngsters.
Thank you Bill Robinson for helping to get my son off to the right start. We may have only seen you once or twice a year, but you always made me and my son, Blair feel like family. You will be missed. God has chosen a special Angel to be by his side there's no doubt about that.

There are so many memories I have of being part of your family. Those years made me the person I am today because of Uncle Bill and Aunt Pos. You gave unconditional help, direction and most importantly love. I will never forget Uncle Bill asking me "are you ok girl?" I hope he knows that I am because he cared. Now I am sure he is ok because he in the hands of our Lord and what a place to be...I am proud to be apart of your family, because what I have learned it has helped me to raise two wonderful daughters. So rest in peace Uncle Bill you are a bright spot in all of our lives and you will be forever in our hearts.
Love you always,
Kimmie, Frank Candice and Nikki
