To Jimmy Gliatto and his family:
We are so sorry to hear of your brother's passing, Jimmy. The loss of someone so close and with whom you share so many memories of growing-up years must be devastating for you. Please know that many out there share your sadness and hope that those same memories you formed with your brother when you were younger will now sustain you in the days to come.

To The Entire Gliatto Family,
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Joe. From what I read it sounds as if his personality was very much the same as when he was a child. I remember him being fun, outgoing, and a little wilder than the rest of the clan. I have so many great memories of all of you,I think of you and make references to you often. Please know my thoughts are with you and wish for peace in the days to come for all of you.

My deepest condolences to the Gliatto family from an old neighbor. When I was a kid, my folks moved into a development where we found ourselves a couple doors away from a family with seven sons and a beautiful dog named Wilhemina. I'll never forget their lovely home, their intelligence and humor, and most of all, the fact that I was always welcome there. I'm so sorry for the untimely loss of your Joseph.

Joe and I were kids together. We went to St. Patrick's Elementary School. I remember that even then he loved music, was highly intelligent, funny, and a good person. I have thought of him and all of the Gliattos throughout the years. Please know you are especially in the family's hearts at this time.

I've known Joe since sometime in 1983. We had many mutual friends, and shared many great times over the years. We in Richmond could immediately feel the loss of losing Joe. We know that the things that we did together will never be the same without his presence. My deepest sympathy goes out to the many friends and family members that will miss him as well.

I shared an apartment with Joe for a year in Blacksburg and I had many great times with him. I cherish many memories of our time there: blasting John Fahey's Christmas record on the fourth of July, discussing "Franny and Zoey" and laughing at TV characters like Telly Monster or Dr. Smith. I admired Joe's uplifting attitude and was glad that he chose to move to my hometown Richmond. Sadly life caused us to travel in different circles but I always considered him as a good friend and we always had a great time when we did get together.
Much sympathy to his family and friends, he will be missed by many here in Richmond.

I met Joe in my first year of college, I guess his sophomore year, at Tech. We got to be good friends, spent a lot of time together playing guitars or running around with our many other friends there and still later on in Richmond. Eventually we slipped out of contact around the late 90's, but I started seeing him around now and then during the past few years, and we even had an impromptu reunion jam-session on his porch last summer that flew into the wee hours actually it continued on into the not-quite-as-wee hours. Right now I'm really glad that happened. His sudden passing has made me terribly sad, such a shock.
How do you describe Joe. "One of a kind" doesn't get you halfway there... his creativity, sense of humor, and positive attitude are unequalled in my experience. I feel very lucky to have known him and my deepest sympathies go to his family and all who loved him. One thing is for sure; he'll not be forgotten in my lifetime.
