Ellen, I wish I would have gotten a chance to know you better. You were such a loving person. So creative and kind. You spoke to softly, but you were tough and courageous to the end. We will miss you!

Having Ellen in our lives was a blessing that will continue to ripple throughout our family for generations. One could not be in her company without sensing she was a special person of notable character.
Rubbing elbows with Ellen was like, as a child, opening a box of Cracker Jacks -- while eating your way to the surprise packed inside, usually near the bottom, you not only enjoyed the tasty treats, but the entire experience.
We are richer than most as she leaves us all with a part of HER: her gentleness, her beautiful spirit, her keen dry sense of humor, her truly giving nature, her talent in the culinary arts, her gift of sewing and quilt making, her kindheartedness for the elderly, her loving care for all, and so much more...
In a interview by Paul Bradshaw with Rick Warren, author of "A Purpose Driven Life", Rick said: "People ask me "What is the purpose of life?" And I respond: "In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven. One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body -- but not the end of me. I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going spend trillions of years in eternity. This is the warm-up act -- the dress rehearsal. God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity. We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn't going to make sense."
Ellen's influential act of life on this earth was cut short according to our time line, and we all grieve her absence deeply. But our angel is now home with her Creator, and for that we can rejoice - for it gives us a 'peace that passes all understanding' and a hope that someday we'll all be together again in Heaven. Now, we stand with our hands held high in reverent ovation, reaching up to Father God with thanks and praise for having her in our lives fifty-one grateful years..
I'll forever miss everything about you, especially your great smile, your soft voice, and that quirky, wonderful laugh, my dear cousin Ellen.

Ellen was a very special friend to us. We will always cherish all our fun times together. All her great meals and how she taught me to do quilting...I told her I would stick to projects that didn't take so long.....but we have the beautiful quilted wall hanging that she made us for Christmas, we will cherish it forever. We are blessed to have had the chance to know such a special person. May god bless you all.

Ellen was truly special,& she made everyone around her feel like they too were special. She once said that she believed that her daughter Sarah was a heaven sent angel. She absolutely loved & adored her husband John, with whom she spent the happiest years of her life. Ellen always maintained her calm & gentle way through the toughest of times. May God Bless her & all who share in the sorrow of her passing.

Ellen was my best friend in nursing school and we never thought we would make it through it. But we supported each other along the way. She always knew she wanted to work with the elderly and she had the perfect calm, caring personality to work in that envirnoment. I remember dinners with her family, picnics and when she married John. I was so glad I was able to be a quest at their weddding and was so glad she was able to attend my wedding as well. Ellen was a person who always put others before herself and although I have not seen her for many years I felt such a sense of sadness to hear of her passing. Take comfort in your wonderful memories and know that she is in a better place. Bernadette Doherty Gearhart, RN
