Obituary of Elizabeth Montgomery

Elizabeth Montgomery, age 96, of West Deptford, NJ passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 21,2019.

She was lovingly known by various names such as Liz, Betty, Mom, Grand mom and Grum. As Betty and Liz she was a friend to many as her smile and wittiness could spark laughter in a quiet room. Along with this she was know for her feisty personality.

She was a wife of many years to Joseph Montgomery Sr. until his passing. She was a loving mother to 3 children Beth Montgomery MacWatters, Jeanne Montgomery Collar (deceased) and husband Joe Collar, and Joseph Montgomery Jr. (deceased).  She was a devoted Grand-mother (or better known as Grum) to Joe III, Kathleen, Jeanne, Deanna, Michelle, Dawn, Pamela, Debra, and Diane; and Great Grandmother to 17 beautiful great grand children.

In her earlier years she volunteered on Fairview’s ambulance squad. She worked many years as the phlebotomist at Underwood Memorial Hospital until she retired in her 70’s. She was an avid bowler until her 90’s. She loved all animals. She was an excellent seamstress, a great cook and baker, and who was known to bake her famous chocolate mayonnaise cake. She loved sports especially the Philadelphia Phillies and Duke University’s Men’s Basketball.

On top of everything she was know as a generous and thoughtful person who would always remember loved ones and friends birthdays, anniversaries, or special occasions by sending a card.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 28, 2019 from 11 am to 1 pm at the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury, NJ  08096.  A Funeral Service will follow at the funeral home at 1 pm.
