Patricia,
This past week has been a very trying one for our family. Although I was only "an in-law", your grandfather has always made me feel like I was truly one of his own. I will always remember his kindness and his undying love for his family. He will always remain in my heart and I am truly blessed to have had him in my life.

Dear Patty/Pat and Family,
What a sad day it was when we learned of "Grandpop Lombardo's" passing. He was a kind, caring, gentle, and fun loving man especially while at the casinos!. What great attributes to be remembered by. He will live on in all our hearts through the wonderful memories he has left behind.
Take care and know that all of you are in our thoughts and our prayers.
Grandpop will be truly missed ...
Love, Ronnie, Al & Bryan

I was so deeply saddened to hear of Uncle Angelo's passing. I will treasure my memories of him for he was truly one of the nicest, kindest and most delightful members of the family and my personal favorite sincerely from the bottom of my heart. Whenever I was in Uncle Angelo's company, he always made a fuss over me which will forever touch my heart when I think of him and pray for him. Even as a little girl, I knew in my heart Uncle Angelo was very special. As I got older, I came to appreciate, without a doubt, that Uncle Angelo was and always will remain in my eyes, the epitome of charm, class, a gentle man and always, always, always a gentleman. God has called home one of his most brightest angels. He will be missed.
God bless you and your family in this time of deep sorrow. I share your pain.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Frannie

Pat, We all know how much you LOVED your grandfather and how much you will MISS him. That showed in the way you and your family took care of him. As you know, I know of the pain you're feeling and you don't want to hear "he's in a better place" because to you, you need him here. The only comfort I guess you can think about is that he is not suffering anymore. There will be no more pain and that is all we want for our loved ones. Just remember all of the good times you had together. Don't remember the pain because now he is pain free and smiling down and watching over all of you.
Remember all your friends are there for you at work if you need anything.

We were fortunate to see Uncle Angelo just a few months ago on a beautiful summer day at his granddaughter?s house for a barbecue. Although his health was starting to fail he was as always pleasant and happy to see us and our children. When we would be expected for a visit at my mother?s house, he would always tell her to say hi for him and ?squeeze the kids.?
We thought it was great when, several years ago, he decided to return to visit his native Italy. Accompanied by his family, he discovered long lost relatives there and came home with fond memories. We're glad that his family was there for him for a trip of a lifetime, and was there for him through his remaining days. He will be sorely missed.

A wise, old man used to say ?That?s the way the cookie crumbles.? I think I heard him mutter it under his breath a time or two ? along with phrases like ?God bless me,? ?Salute,? and ?Be careful.? Although all were seemingly simple, those statements about existence were also quite profound, much like his own life.
Born in Calabria, Italy, in 1911, he said that his memories of Italy were those of a land marked with poverty. His fondest memory was when he crushed the grapes for wine with his bare feet.
Coming to America, he was surprised to find big, animal-like machines that he would learn were cars, and he would get to witness the transformation of cars as luxury items to everyday necessities. Not to mention watching the evolution of air travel, sending people to space, world wars, and the turn of the century.
After marrying and having a daughter, he watched as his family grew, spreading roots from San Marco Argentano, Calabria, to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Although he was predeceased by his daughter and wife, he was always surrounded by family members and taught by example that family is everything.
Although he was my great-grandfather, I never felt the distance that that title sometimes entails. Not only was he sharp as a tack even at the very end, he had an undying spirit and unparalleled spunk. In his eighties, he had one of his most bright ideas ? to go back to the motherland of Italy. I was fortunate enough to accompany him on that trip. I think that trip proved to be one of the many highlights of his life, as he got to see his land not one of poverty, but one of beauty. He took that pride back home with him and secretly wished to return again one day.
The last time I spoke with him, he told me that he felt like a very sick, old man, and yet, I never got the impression that he was giving up. He was certainly a man of great strength. He was sometimes quiet, oftentimes laughing, and always humble. I hope that death?s angel took him to all of those places he so wanted to visit before she took him to meet his maker. I have no intention of saying goodbye to Grandpa ? he would prefer so long. Although I?m sure he?s with family in heaven, he will be sadly missed by his family here on earth. I think we?re all very lucky to have known him and had him a part of our lives. Heaven is gaining wonderful man.
His great-granddaughter
Christine
