I remember the smell when walking into your house, the warm feeling of smelling a homecooked meal. I remember spaghetti dinners on Sundays and letting me dip the bread, Eating raw cookie batter while Mom & Dad played Santa. I remember following you everywhere, even if you walked into the other room. I remember the sparkle in your eyes & the joy in your heart when you did something for someone. I remember taking walks & never getting far, stopping to chat with friends. I remember sleeping over and waking up to a breakfast fit for a queen and looking forward to spending the whole day together. I remember you taking my cold hands in yours and saying: "cold hands, warm heart". I remember the way you smiled and said: "there's my girl"...how right you are.
These are the things that you loved and I loved them too. And these are the memories that were yours and you shared them with me and now they are mine. They are heavy in sight and sound, in fragrance and sensation. They are your life and my childhood. They are your accomplishments and my inheritance. They are who you were and who I've become. I have always known this, always appreciated this, always recognized I would be but a shadow of myself without this, but rarely have I dwelt upon the regal influence that was your life.
