Dear Uncle Norman, Judy, Cathy-Joe, Linda, Joey, Lorie and all of your families,
There is so much that Aunt Judy meant to all of us, so much that she embodied that I wish more of the world could be. She loved deeply and was so kind. Her gentleness and love for her pets also speaks to her character. Though we will miss her so, we hope that God will replace the loss you now feel with peace.
We love you all,
John, Pat, Jonathan, Nicole and Bella

To Norman and family,
Judy, Mrs.Smashey to me, even now that I'm 45 years old will always be loved and kept in my heart. We had some great times on Hess avenue, especially with the Smashey family. One of the memories that I remember was when I was 3 or 4 years old and I got in trouble for something at my house with my twin brother Tom and we decided to run away from home. Guess where we ran to? Mr. and Mrs. Smashey's house, right down the street, clothed only in our diapers. Mrs. Smashey welcomed us in with open arms. She gave us
cookies and milk just like any Mom would do, and then called our house to let my parents know that we were there.
I will always remember Mrs. Smashey as a loving, fun, caring women who loved not only her family but her neighbors and friends.
As long as each of us keep the special memories of Judy in our hearts, she will ALWAYS be with us.
Donnie

Uncle Norman,
Words can not express the sadness we feel at the loss of Aunt Judy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Linda,Judy,Joe,Lori and Kathy. When I found out she had passed all I could think of was that she has not seen my mom in 3 1/2 years and I bet they are having quite a time catching up. We love you all.

Some Thoughts of Judith Smashey
When my wife and I think of the meaning of the word "friendship" the name Judy Smashey immediately comes to mind. Judy touched upon my life in innumerable ways over the sixty years that I knew her and on that of my wife since we first married. Judy was always there for me, or anyone in need of her help or just a soft shoulder to cry on. From the petty problems of early childhood to the physical ailments of old age, Judy was always there to listen and comfort. Faithful letters to a tired soldier in frozen Korea brought solace and news from home. We didn't get home to New Jersey nearly often enough, but our first stop was always at the Smasheys' where we knew we would be welcomed with a good cup of coffee, some fattening pastries, and an update on the latest news. On the rare occasions when I went in harms way and the family had to stay behind in New Jersey, I was comforted knowing that Norm and Judy were always ready to help in time of need. As our families grew, even though we often didn't see one another for years at a time, Judy took my children under her loving wing almost as if they were her own. When Kim and I were in Taiwan and our oldest daughter was in college there in New Jersey, she felt as much a part of the Smashey family as she was of ours. And we were comforted knowing she was in good hands.
Ours is not an isolated case, I'm sure. Judy must certainly have touched upon the lives of countless others in a similar fashion. Her physical presence here on earth will be sorely missed by the scores of us who knew her. She made our lives fuller and we were blessed by having known her. I'm certain that God has welcomed her into His presence with open arms and she is now among the angels in Heaven.
Norm and children, we can't find the words to express our sympathy for your loss. We wish we could be there with you, as you were for us so many times. I hope you understand the limits we now face in traveling. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of need. May God bless you all! As Judy would always remember to say: "We love you!"
Your friends,
Jim and Kim Groat

To Norman and the Smashey family,
I just wish to express to you my deepest condolences on the loss of your beloved wife and mother Judy. She was not only my neighbor but she was a friend always willing to listen or help in any way she could and she truly cared for all those around her. She treated me as well as my brothers and sisters as if we were her own children. She will truly be missed and God has accepted her into His heavenly kingdom. I will keep Judy and the family in my prayers and may God bless you and give you His strength and courage at this most trying time.
