Mrs. Fagnani was a kind and beautiful woman who always had a ton of energy and loved her kids dearly.
For me, she made a difference in my life when she and her husband allowed me to work at their store one summer while I was in college. I remember, even though they were watching their budget carefully, she was always generous offering cookies and gelato.
I remember one time during that summer when she gave me some good advice about girls and dating. In her explanation, she spoke warmly of how she and Mr. Fagnani met and their first date together. She said he was pretty suave and charming.
In fact, because of that summer in their Italian bakery and deli, the experience helped prepare me for my future Italian wife and in-laws. It was a lot easier to bond with my in-laws because I knew the language of Italian pastries -- cannoli, biscotti, focaccia, sfogliatella.
I wish I took the time to introduce her to my wife, Stephanie. I think she would have approved. They share the same spirit.
I?ll never forget Mrs. Fagnani. She was a very special person. I miss her a lot.
