Mary Lou,
When I read the obituary for Jacob, I couldn't help but think of the years we shared together in St. Patrick's School. They seem so long ago but the memories are wonderful.
It is always hard to lose a sibling. It is like losing part of your childhood. I want you to know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

When you hear the news of a family member suddenly dying, it doesn't make sense. Aren't we all supposed to live forever? Not so.
But I do remember Jack as not only a husband, a relative, but also as a rare person. First there were the many family get together's over the years when I lived back in Jersey. These were the best years for all of us with holidays and birthdays and holidays at Mom and Pop Cleary's. When I moved to teh West Coast I missed the Fmaily, but I always remembered Jack's voice with some slice of humor about life.
He lived in an honest, simple way with no pretensions about life. This was reinforced by his humor, his sarcasm, and his wit that was able to pierce through much of the fluff that clogs up other people's lives. Jack was straight up and to the point.
A rare individual at best. He was also a plodder in that he worked hard for years as an expert mechanic, A Corvette addict, a computer genius of sorts, the successful fisherman, and the perennial, seasonal gardener.
He moved through each year with very little pretension and a great deal of honest repsonse to his life and others. He never suffered from denial and shot straight from the hip when you discussed things with him. This was refreshing.
Let us not forget that he not only raised a garden yearly, but also a family of strong children with a wonderful wife and mother Cassy standing in the shadows. The young sweethearts moved through life together changing with this sudden absence.
This is testimony enough for a good life since he left behind a solid family, a wonderful wife, and a life of simple honesty with many slices of humor in between. What else can each of us ask for? Jack, we'll miss you!
