Obituary of Claude R. Hunte

Claude Reginald Hunte, Sr. was born on March 31, 1917, in Brooklyn, New York, the second child of Darnley Lloyd and Ernestine Louise Hunte. His religious training began at the knees of his mother and in the Sunday school system of the John Wesley United Methodist Church in Brooklyn. He was involved for some time with working with the youth in the church. After he moved to New Jersey, he joined the Sayers United Methodist Church and served as chairperson of the Finance Committee. He later joined the Eastwick United Methodist Church where he was a member of United Methodist Men. Claude was educated in the public school system of New York City, graduating from Manual Training High School when he excelled in academies and track. "Chauncey", the name he adopted and was lovingly called by all who knew him, was joined in matrimony to Alice Morris, from which union two children were born: Eunice Maxine and Claude Reginald, Jr. Claude was drafted into the U.S. Navy on February 22, 1944 and discharged as Yeoman 1st. Class, with honors. Claude was a Medical Service Director for the Department of Defense Personell Service Corp, Philadelphia, PA. Claude joined Post #3090 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, ultimately attaining the position of Commander. After his retirement from corporate employment he worked in Defense Supply for the Department of Defense. "Chauncey" was blessed with two inmate talents: dancing and a keen sense of humor which took him from entertaining on the street corners of Brooklyn, NY to entertaining in the Pocono Mountains with his mentor, teacher and friend, Walter Pritchett, now decreased, and company. "Chauncey" loved people and people loved him because of his vibrancy and his energizing spirit. He thrived on being with people. His love for his family was even greater and he thrived the more on being with them. He was loving, kind, giving, and forgiving. Claude lived a full and fruitful life making life worth living for some and offering his contribution toward making the world a better place to live. We believe that he was all God wanted him to be; and so we give God thanked for lending him to us for so long. We now release him back to his Maker that he may Rest in Peace, for such is his just reward. Sleep on Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
