To The Dear Family of Mr. Drinkhouse:
I was so sad to hear the news of Mr. Drinkhouse's passing. When I left the hospital on Sunday I felt for sure he was improving.
Mr. Drinkhouse was a very special patient of mine. When I came in on Sunday, I was surprised he remembered my name. "Hello, Chrissy," he said. Even though I was his nurse before that day, most patients forget names of nurses once the shift changes.
I was happy to get the chance to know Mr. Drinkhouse, even for short time. What made a difference in his disposition was him knowing what a loving family he had. He talked about his children, grandchildren, and of course, his loving wife, Mrs. Drinkhouse. He was very pleasant all throughout his hospital stay in spite of the suffering he endured. Other nurses mentioned how lucky I was to be able to take care of "such a nice guy". They didn't need to tell me.
Working with so many patients I am so happy to meet people like Mr. Drinkhouse. Even though I knew him for such a short time, I wouldn't doubt he lived a fulfilled life sharing his charming personality with those he knew or just met. Evidence of that, was the crowd of visitors he had. They couldn't fit in the room and sometimes we had to ask them to step out in the hallway so we could take care of him, but because of their concern, we could see visitors peeking in to make sure he was alright. I am so happy his family and friends had been in to see him before his passing. It means so much to the patients.
I only wish I could have done more for Mr. Drinkhouse. I wish I could have breathed for him.
God bless you and may a piece of his soul be with you always.
Sincerely,
Chrissy Corbett, RN
