Obituary of William J. Murphy
Murphy, William J., 81, of Glassboro, NJ on May 26, 2004., Lifetime member of the Boy
Scouts of America who lived by the Scout Slogan, ?Do a Good Turn Daily.?
Mr. Murphy was born in Philadelphia and raised in National Park. He proudly served
with the U S Navy during World War II in both the European and Pacific Theaters.
Mr. Murphy was a claims manager for several insurance companies including Trans America Insurance Company of Philadelphia, where he retired in 1985. In 1954 he moved to Glassboro. He was a devoted member of St. Bridget?s Church where he was active in their BINGO program.
His deep devotion and leadership wtih the Boy Scouts of America was exemplified by his 20 years as a Scout Master with Troop 88 and serving on the Catholic Committee for Scouting. He received the Silver Beaver, Scouting?s highest award for volunteer service.
In his spare time he enjoyed listening to music, playing golf, pool and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife Margaret M. nee Mullen, his devoted children; William J. Murphy & his wife Patricia and Maureen Cook & her husband Ian, loving grandchildren; Amy, Dan, Christopher & Allison and dear siblings; Marian Keegan, Eleanor Thom, John and Joseph Murphy.
