Obituary of James P. Bradley

BRADLEY, James Peter "POP" of Williamstown, NJ, formerly of Gray's Ferry, on April 2, 2004. Aged 70 years. Mr. Bradley was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean war. From 1960 to 1975, Mr. Bradley worked in the Re-Entry Systems Department of General Electric in Phila., PA. Before retiring in 1993, he worked at General Electric in Valley Forge for 23 years. While with General Electric, he was active with the ELFUN Society and volunteered as a "hugger" with the Special Olympics. Before moving to New Jersey, Mr. Bradley was very active in the Gray's Ferry community. He was an officer and vice-president of the Gray's Ferry Community Council, one of the founding officers of the Gray's Ferry Credit Union, and ran the Gray's Ferry Youth Athletic Association during the 1970's. He was also active with the Pack 546 Cub Scouts many years ago. He also helped raise funds for the William Barrett Nabuurs Community Center in Gray's Ferry. For many years, Mr. Bradley strutted down Broad Street with the Mummers Fancy Brigade Division as a Joker. He also helped to form the Father & Son New Years Brigade, of which many of his family members participated. The last time Mr.Bradley strutted down 2nd St. in his Mummers costume was in 1986. While living in Gray's Ferry, Mr. Bradley was a lector, choir member and an officer of the St. Gabriel's Home and School Association. At St. Mary's RC Church in Williamstown, NJ, Mr. Bradley was a Eucharistic Minister conducting prayer services at Alterra Nursing Home where he was known lovingly as "Father Jim". In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, fishing, going to the beach with his pink umbrella, and watching the Phillies and Washington Twp. baseball and soccer games. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's sporting events and dance recitals. He also enjoyed feeding the birds and even handcrafted several birdhouses for them. He will be remembered as a caring, fun loving and devoted man, but most of all as a perfect husband, father and grandfather. Beloved husband for 49 years of Mary Nee Righter. Devoted father of Michael Terrie , James, Jr. Maryann, Marybeth Pyle Jack, all of Sewell, NJ, and Stephen Elaine of Haverton, PA. Loving grandfather of Kelly and Jim, Bridget and Grace, Beth Ann and Caitlin Pyle, and Alexandra, Stephen, Jr. and Paul.
