Obituary of Thomas O. Wells
Thomas O. Wells, 87, of Pitman, NJ passed on suddenly of a stroke on January 14, 2020.
Legacy
Husband of the late Barbara, Tom was born in Commerce, TX to John and Sara Wells. He met the love of his life ("my bride"), while stationed in Germantown, PA in 1954. He volunteered to serve in the US Army at the age of 17 in order to be beside his older brother, Alvin, in the Korean Conflict. After two tours he was Honorably discharged with the rank of Sgt. and was reunited with his love on Valentine's Day, 1956. They married that June and were together until her passing in 2013; their marriage was a testament to their love and an inspiration to their children and grand-children. Tom's work ethic was among the strongest ever seen and he instilled in his children the importance of this. He held many jobs through the years, sometimes working 2 part time with his full time. He spent 30 years with Eastern Airlines until his retirement in 1988. He then spent almost 10 years with Camden County College before his final retirement. Tom loved his family and time with them and will always be remembered as a great provider to his family. He was a great friend to many. Tom enjoyed his time with Veterans groups, especially the Park Place Veterans. He also served in the Honor Guard at the Gloucester County Veterans' Cemetery. The past 2 years Tom was a resident of Pitman Manor, where he enjoyed his independent lifestyle and interacting with staff and fellow residents. He truly loved the family of workers there who saw him as being quite a character.
Family
Aside from his wife, Tom was predeceased by 4 siblings. He is survived by his children Donna and John Skaggs, Tom & Rhonda Wells (TN), Diane and Bob Haddock (DE), and Debbie Wells. He was so proud of his 4 grandchildren: Don and Bethann Davis, Dan and Tina Davis, AJ and Bethany Wells, and Stephanie Wells, as well as his 3 great-grandchildren. Tom is also survived by 4 siblings
