Obituary of David Harrison Dreher
David Harrison Dreher passed away on February 20, 2020.
Family
David is survived by his loving wife of sixteen years, Rosemary Page Moran, West Deptford, NJ. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert O. Dreher and Marguerite E. Dreher, his sister, Marilyn M. Dreher and his son, David H. Dreher, Jr. He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Langbein (Peter), Bel Air, MD and Phyllis Dreher, Colville, WA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Spencer, Teresa and Brian Langbein, Richard Minter and Matthew Dreher.
Legacy
David was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 7, 1931. His parents moved to Mount Holly, NJ in 1931 where his father taught at Mount Holly High School and later Rancocas Valley High School (RVHS).
David graduated from RVHS in 1949. He graduated from Bucknell University, his father’s Alma Mater, in 1953.
David was drafted into the US Army in 1953 during the Korean Conflict and served most of his service at the US Army Headquarters Europe, Heidelberg, Germany. After discharge, he spent two years in graduate study at Ohio State University. Following the sudden death of his father, he returned to New Jersey and began working for RCA Defense Systems, Moorestown, NJ. He worked at that location for 48 years and retired as Senior Technical Manager with Lockheed Martin.
In 1976, David traveled to Kwajalein, Marshall Islands to work in the US Army’s Missile Test Range. At that location, he was Neighbor Commissioner, Aloha Council, Boy Scouts of America and participated in the rescue mission of several RCA families during Typhoon Alice. For his many contributions to the community, he received the US Army Community Service Award.
When David returned to the United States in 1979, he worked on a number of Government Radar Systems Programs in the United States, United Kingdom and Taiwan. He spent most of his work life on the US Navy’s Aegis Weapon Systems Program. David received the US Navy Aegis Award for his consistent, outstanding professional service, as well as the US Navy’s Technical Service Award. David was a member of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers and served as National Newsletter Editor for a number of years.
While at Moorestown, David was actively involved in a number of US Government and community activities. He was a Lockheed Martin Loan Executive for Burlington County United Way.
David continued his community support including Charter Member RVHS Education Foundation. For his many years of community support, David was inducted in the RVHS VIP Hall of Fame on June 6, 2003.
Farewell Tribute
Viewing will be held on Saturday, February 29th from 10:00 am–12:00 pm at the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury, NJ. Funeral Service to follow.
David will be buried next to his son, David Jr., in Locustwood Cemetery, 1500 Route 70 West, Cherry Hill, NJ.
