Obituary of Paul J Thomas, Sr.

Paul J. Thomas Sr. of West Deptford, NJ, passed away peacefully in his home on May 10th, 2020.

Known as “Mister T, Taz, and Big Paul” to friends, and “Pop-Pop” to many, Paul was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. We will remember him forever as the hard working man and unwavering spirit that left such a valuable legacy behind. As the founder of Thomas & Sons Racing, Paul loved to drag race and work on cars. Whether it was those he built from the ground up with his sons, projects that filled him with pride for his grandchildren who share his love for racing, or most recently the “T-Bucket” in his garage, Paul always took the lead when it came to loud, roaring engines.

An honorable, strong, caring man, whose family was at the center of his heart, Paul and Susan built a life they loved in West Deptford. Raising three children—Paul Jr., Suzanne, and Sean—they spent weekends climbing the leaderboard at Atco Raceway and Cecil County Dragway, took annual family vacations to Super Chevy at Maple Grove Raceway, and found time to spend summers boating, while winters were for hunting in the Poconos. His passion for drag racing and hunting will live on through his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and for generations to come. 

Our family is blessed to have learned so many of life’s important lessons from Paul. He was influential to many people he encountered throughout his life and could bring a smile to even a stranger’s face. As the patriarch of the Thomas family, his passion to live life to the fullest, be a loyal friend, and provide endless love and support to his family will never be forgotten.

Paul was the beloved husband of Susan Thomas (nee Carl). Devoted father of Paul J. Thomas Jr., Suzanne Thomas-Hasko (Chris), and Sean Thomas (Shannon). Treasured grandfather of P.J., Samantha, Dylan, C.J. (Caitlyn), Lexi, Katey, Karli, and Kelsi. Adored great grandfather of Johnathon Thomas and Joseph Paul. Son of the late Elizabeth and James Thomas. Dear brother of William, Robert, Michael, Corey, Peggy and the late James, Elizabeth, Dorothy, Richard, and David. 

Forever in our hearts, we’ll meet you at the end of the quarter mile.

Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service on Friday, September 18th from 9:00AM to 11:00AM in the McGuinness Funeral Home (Woodbury), 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury, NJ 08096.  Funeral Service at 11:00AM in the funeral home.  Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Sewell, NJ.
