Obituary of Carmella R. Popjoy

Carmella R. Popjoy (nee Campitelli), 81, of Oak Valley, New Jersey, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2020. 

Legacy

Born in South Philadelphia, Carmella was a 1957 graduate of Hallahan High School.  They settled in Oak Valley in 1962 and was a very active member of St. Margaret's Church and Women's Club.  Prior to retiring, Carmella was a payroll clerk at KMart in Mantua for over 15 years.

A loving and outgoing lady, Carmella's smile would light up a room.  She was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren.   Treasured memories were captured during trips to the shore and Italy while visiting cousins.  Her wonderful Italian cooking will be missed by all, along with her biscotti cookies that were gifted to the nuns at St. Margaret's.  Other favorite pastimes included swimming at the YMCA, reading, saying the rosary and working on crossword puzzles, sudoku, and crypto quotes. Carmella also loved to watch and root for the Phillies.

Beloved wife of 60 years to William C. Popjoy; devoted mother of William (Ellen) Popjoy III, Esq., Catherine Ann Palmer, Marie (Dr. Joseph) Conti and Joann Popjoy; cherished grandmother of Joseph, Alexander, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Annmarie, Laura, Bradley, Gregory and great grandmother of James; dear sister of the late Joseph Campitelli.  Carmella is survived by her loving nieces and nephew, Anita Campitelli, Tina Landrum and Carmen Campitelli.      

Farewell Tribute

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Carmella's viewing on Monday, 8:30 - 10:00 AM in the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury, NJ.  Mass of Christian Burial on Monday 11:00 AM at Infant Jesus Parish at St. Margaret's RC Church, 3rd and Beech Street, Woodbury Heights, NJ  08097.  Entombment at Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro, NJ.

 In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Gloucester Catholic High School Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, 333 Ridgeway Street, Gloucester City, NJ  08030.
