Obituary of Martha E. Stemberger
Martha E. Stemberger (nee Steffens), 89, of West Deptford, New Jersey, entered heaven on November 21, 2020. She was 89.
Legacy
A warm and friendly woman who didn't know a stranger, she will be sorely missed by the many people whose lives she touched. Martha was married to her high school sweetheart, Joseph J. Stemberger, for 46 years. She was widowed in 1995. She retired from West Deptford High School after 20 years of service. A longtime member of Verga United Methodist Church, she was active in the Guild and the grief support group, HOPE, and West Deptford Senior Citizens. Martha was an exceptional cook and consummate hostess; everyone was welcome at her table, especially at the holidays. She also enjoyed traveling and supporting her grandchildren in their endeavors.
Family
A devoted mother and grandmother, she is survived by her son, Mayor Joseph Stemberger (Donna) of Elmer, her daughter Michele Engles (Bill) of West Deptford, her grandchildren Jesse Stemberger (Nicole), Kara Stemberger, Luke Stemberger (Shen Lim), Steven Engles, Emily Engles, and great granddaughter Audrey Lim Stemberger. She is also survived by her brothers Henry and Bobby Steffens, sister Rosemarie Zubrack, sister in law Betty Steffens, as well as many nieces and nephews, especially Jennifer Kurtz and Madelyn O'Toole. The sixth of 8 children born to Paul and Wilhemina Steffens, she was predeceased by her brother Paul Steffens, and sisters Madelyn Romano, Dorothy Grant and Evelyn Steidler.
Farewell Tribute
Interment will be private for her immediate family. A Memorial Service will be held at the church at a later date when her life can be celebrated fully.
