Geoffrey was a friend of mine, a good friend of mine, despite the geographical distance between us. I recall that I once tried to teach him a German song about friendship – “Ein Freund, ein guter Freund” (A friend, a good friend). You can see a version of hit here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35PCFQtrgJM – Then as we rode the ski lift up the mountain, the valley echoed as his voice bellowed out. Beautiful, and characteristic. There are so many memories from so long ago – skiing down a Vermont slope on our chins because of the ice, racing bicycles down Broadway in Pitman after a tennis match, chilling to the Eagles, devouring five pounds of shrimp between us, and more. I knew Geoffrey when we were both young and generally carefree men. But I watched, from afar, as he grew into his new role as dedicated family man, beloved teacher and coach, and responsible community member. Geoff was caring and expressive of his affection even before that became fashionable. I admired his analytical mind, which he brought to his love of nature, automobiles, science, fishing, and golf. His was a life well-lived. Farewell, mein Freund. Thanks for the memories.
