Obituary of Leah Cave

Leah Jayne Cave (nee Fritz) a lifelong resident of South Jersey, passed away on Saturday December 12, 2020. She was 92 years old.

Family

She was predeceased by her husband Jesse L. Cave Jr. She is survived by her daughter Dianne (Michael) Hallowell of Woodbury NJ, her son Jesse Cave of Sewell NJ, her grandchildren Shelley Hallowell of Woodbury NJ, Amanda (Justin) Graff of Williamstown NJ, Jesse Cave of Sewell NJ, Katie Cave of Sewell NJ, her great grandchildren Hayden and Raleigh Graff, and her beloved dog Buddy.

Legacy

Jayne, as she liked to be called, was born and raised in Atlantic City NJ. When she got older, she moved to Woodbury NJ where she met her husband and she and her husband raised two children there. When her children were grown and out on their own Jayne and her husband moved to Shenandoah Village in Sicklerville and then to the Villas in Cape May. She also lived in Somers Point NJ, Leisuretowne in Southhampton NJ, and in West Deptford NJ.

Jayne had quite a few jobs in her life including being a waitress, working at Sears, and being an assistant manager at S&H Green Stamps. Her most favorite jobs though happened in the later part of her life, they included volunteering at the Shore Memorial Hospital gift shop, working at the gift shop at the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, and as a lower block clerk at the Manheim Auto Auction in Bordentown NJ.

The Jersey shore was always Jaynes favorite place to be. In her younger years she was always adventurous and a little mischievous. She actually carried around a splinter of wood from a bicycle mishap on the Atlantic City boardwalk in her teens. She also learned how to swim in Atlantic City when her stepfather had her jump off the Steel Pier and made her swim back to shore. Another story she loved to tell was when her and her friends decided to swim from Atlantic City to the Brigantine inlet and then high tide came in and they could not get back to Atlantic City. Her mother had to be called to come get her and she was not pleased but it was very memorable. Even though her late childhood and teenage years were during Word War II, she had some amazing memories and great stories from that time.

Jaynes other interests included travel, especially to the Midwest, with her family, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and reading mystery novels especially by the authors Clive Cussler and James Patterson.

There will be no memorial service and in lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jaynes name to the Animal Welfare Association (awanj.org) in Voorhees NJ.
