Obituary of Mary A. Carel
Mary A Carel, of Woodbury Mews, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021. She was 91.
Legacy
Mary was born and raised in Philadelphia. She was a graduate of Hallahan C.G.H.S., class of 1947. Mary met her husband, John; they were married in 1948 and resided in Philadelphia for several years before moving to South Jersey and settling in Woodbury Heights in 1959 where they continued to grow their family.
A friendly woman that loved to laugh, Mary was always enjoyable to be around. She was devoted to her faith beginning at St. Patrick's Church and then St. Margaret's Church where she was very active among the church community. Mary served as a Eucharistic Minister, attended the many social activities the church held and was past President of the Women's Club. Some of Mary's fondest memories were spent with her family during the summers in Brigantine, NJ. Mary enjoyed taking road trips in the fall to see the beauty of the changing foliage and spending countless hours tending to her garden. She also had a soft spot for all of her canine companions she had throughout her life. Mary found solace by being by the waters, whether it was walks on the boardwalks down the shore, taking Cape May Ferry trips with her good friend Wilma, walking along the river at Red Bank Battle Field and Riverwinds or swimming at the YMCA. She also had many fond memories with her lifelong friend Trudy.
Family
The only child of the late Anna (Morris) and James Freeman, she is the beloved Wife of the late John E. Carel; devoted mother of John M. Carel (Diane), Richard J. Carel (Jill), Stephen Carel, William J. Carel (Joanne) and the late James T. Carel; loving grandmother to 14 and cherished great grandmother to 16.
