Obituary of Mae Young
Emilie "Mae" Young, of Sicklerville, NJ (formerly Woodbury Heights 1955 to 2015), passed away peacefully on March 28, 2021, with her family by her side.
She lived an extraordinary life of almost 95 years! She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Edward and Minnie; husband Walter; son Walter Jr.; grandson Gary Jr.; siblings Charles (Clara), Josephine (Paul), Emil, and Nolan (Shirley); and many dear friends and loved ones (including Lucius and Gladys Young, Ed and Elsie Moore, Jean and Cliff Myers, May Redfield, Aunts Beattie and Liney, among others).
She was born on August 26, 1926 in Wilmington, Delaware, where she enjoyed a childhood on the farm. In 1941, she met the love of her life, Walter H. Young, whom she married in 1945. Theirs was a love-story for the ages and she took great pride in their marriage of 68 years. She worked in a local bank as a bookkeeper, but was most proud of raising her boys, Walter and Gary. Mae, or as she was more famously known, "Grandma (Emilie)," adored her grandchildren, Gary Jr., Julie (Andy), and Amy, great-grandchildren Gary III, Amber, Tommy, and her name-sake, Emilie, and great-great grandson Johnny. "Aunt Mae" also delighted in spending time with extended family in Woodbury Heights, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Woodbury Heights for more than 55 years.
Mae loved her church, traveling the country in her motor-home, cooking Sunday dinners, baking scrumptious desserts, decorating for the holidays, attending family parties, playing cards with friends and family late into the night, shopping sprees, spoiling her grandchildren, reading her bible, and playing on her iPad. She was a strong woman with an amazing memory, and she revelled in telling her life stories. In her later years, if you asked how she was, she'd joke, "pretty good, for an old lady!" She enjoyed the finer things in life, and also the simpler things, like visits from family, church friends and watching her grandchildren grow.
While we are devastated by her loss, we are forever grateful for the time we had together, and hope you will share your memories with us.
