Don's grandmother and mine were sisters. We spent alot of time at the Mullica River growing up together.
I loved Don very deeply..The last time I saw him was at my son's wedding..He saw me start to cry and came over to comfort me immediately. He dried my tears and hugged me tight.I leaned into his shoulder and sobbed. Don meant the world to me. He will be missed by all of us

We were introduced to Dave & Barb by young Ryan Stutzbach when they moved back to G'boro after Dave's retirement from the USAF one evening on N. Cummings Ave because Nancy had Ryan in 4th grade at Bowe School and we lived 4 doors down. That friendship led to our friendship w/ Big Don and eventually Sherry & Andrea and their families. The friendship his grown over the last 19 yrs and continues today, the Stutzbachs ARE family. Dave and Don are my brothers from another mother. Don was loved by everyone and will be sorely missed. He is in a better place, at peace now and most likely having a sipper with God.

Dave, so sorry for your loss. Cheryl Atkinson Marker, Channon Atkinson Armstrong and I, have such great memories of Donnie when we were kids. They were great times and I remember so many “cool" cars and people who hung out in the dead end with Donnie, Rich Ambacher, Rob Rubin, Nelson Johnson, Keith Wilson, Jim McGeorge, Jack Cheesman, Bruce Atkinson, Kim Matlack and I’m sure many others.Allison Davis, Jill Davis Anderson, Valerie Davis Cook, Karen A Myers, Kathleen Myers Wilt,Sean Kerr, and others from the neighborhood. I specifically remember my father opening our front door and yelling “can you turn that music up any louder” Lol. I also remember finding his stash of beer down at the creek and telling my Dad there was beer down there and he went and got it. Poor under aged Donnie had to ask for it back. These are treasured memories we will never forget. The picture attached was drawn by Nelson Johnson before he passed away in 1976, and is of his car, a 63 Impala, in the "Dead End". Rest in Peace Donnie.

June and John Curti posted a condolence

Don's greatest accomplishment in life was the way he was able to raise 2 incredible daughters after losing his wife at such an early age. His love for his family was always evident and his daughters have carried on the tradition of always putting family first.
SantaRose, Francesca, Piper and CarmellaJo all adored their pop pop and spent so much special time with him through his illness and were a comfort to him. Don was always willing to help anyone that he could whenever someone needed his help. His passing leaves a void but his memory will live on in the hearts of those that knew him. Andrea and Sherry- you always made your dad so proud! You cared for him in such a loving way through these tough months.
Love, "Aunt June and Uncle Johnny"

I remember the first time I met my cousin Donnie, I believe he had a 1967 or 65 Falcon Station Wagon in my Pop Pop's garage that he was working on and I remember going out there and talking to him as he was working on it, it was a Hotrod and I'll never forget that, that's the first memory that comes up and throughout the years that I've known him every time I saw him he was a happy man God bless him, and may the Holy Spirit Comfort the family
