Obituary of Mauritz O. Marcussen, Jr.

Mauritz O. Marcussen, Jr. of West Deptford, New Jersey, passed away at home on Wednesday, July 21, 2021.   He was 88 years old.

Legacy

A sociable man with a smile that could light up a room, Otto, he was affectionately called, enjoyed all that his life had to offer.  He was devout to his faith and religiously attended services at Trinity United Methodist Church.  Otto was a true family man. He idolized his grandchildren and was madly in love with his wife of 50 years, Beverly. 

Otto was a proud Union Carpenter for Local 8 in Philadelphia for 27 years before retirement.  He was also a crossing guard for National Park for 30 years.  After retirement, he continued his working career at the National Park Water Department. He was an avid Philadelphia sports team enthusiast, enjoyed the company of animals, especially dogs, and was an excellent bowler.  Otto was the life of the party, he could always be found in the center of the dance floor.  In his later years, he found solace sitting by a fire with crisp beer. 

Family

Otto is the beloved husband of 50 years to Beverly (nee Garrity) Marcussen; devoted father of the late Mark Roos (Molly), Christopher Roos, Mauritz "Marty" Marcussen III (Shannon) and Stephen Marcussen (Christina); loving grandfather to Matthew, Meghan, Ean and Mason.  He is also survived by his four-legged companion, Rocket, his niece, Ingrid with whom he shared a special relationship with, extended family and dear friends. 

Otto is predeceased by his parents Mauritz, Sr. and Ingrid Marcussen and his sister and her husband Ruth and John Hudson.

 Farewell Tribute

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation at on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at 3:30PM in the McGuinness Funeral Home - Woodbury, 34 Hunter Street. A Memorial Ceremony will be held at the funeral home at 5:00pm.  In honor of Otto's passion for sports, please feel free to wear your favorite sport's team attire. 

Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
