Carolyn Hershey

Obituary of Carolyn Hershey

Carolyn Barbara Hershey (née Cameli), originally of Gibbstown, NJ, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021 at the age of 72 after a long and hard battle against early dementia.

LEGACY

Carolyn was born to parents John and Barbara Cameli on September 10, 1948. She grew up as the eldest of four siblings graduated from St. James High School and Roxborough Memorial Nursing School.  As a nurse, mother and grandmother, she spent her entire life caring for others. She treated everyone with kindness, love and dignity and believed her career of compassionate service to be the highest of honors.

FAMILY

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Amy Zengo (Alex) and her two grandchildren, Abbott (11) and Ainsley (9); her brother, John Cameli; her sisters, Muriel Leone (Russell) and Yvonne Laurusonis; her nieces, Janel Catalano (Joseph) and Shelby Laurusonis; and her nephews, Russell Leone (April) and A. Todd Laurusonis. She leaves behind many cousins and friends that meant the world to her, a list too long to share.

Carolyn’s memory may have failed her in this last chapter of life, but her stories of “the old stomping grounds” continued to bring a smile to her face until the end. Her time spent in Ocean City, in Gloucester City, her childhood swim club, and the “Main Line” during nursing school, were her best memories filled with laughter and joy. All who shared these times with her knew we laughed so hard that we cried waiting to hear more.
