Obituary of Doria Benoff

Doria Benoff (nee Khairy), 88, of Turnersville, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August, 15, 2021

Legacy

A special woman who touched the lives of so many, Doria was born in Cairo, Egypt, and lived her life to the fullest. She travelled the world, also living in Lebanon, Italy, England and finally settling down for good in the United States.

While she loved her British heritage, Doria loved being with family more than anything – especially the time spent with her two daughters.

Doria attended English Mission College located in the province of Heliopolis in Cairo during her high school years, graduating in 1949. She was a member of the Class of 1953 at the Faculty of English Commerce Ain Shams University.

As someone who enjoyed traveling, Doria worked for British Airways and later as a travel agent for many years.

Doria was an avid cook and baker, spending hours in the kitchen. Among her favorite things were preparing Sunday dinners and making her famous baklava for dessert. She enjoyed spending time in Brigantine with friends and family, watching TV – especially game shows, Hawaii 5-0, Blue Bloods and the always popular General Hospital – while also devoting time to knitting and reading. She loved the beaches of Hawaii and Bermuda.

Later in life, Doria enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was thrilled by their various accomplishments.

Family

Daughter of the late Ahmed and Hilda Khairy, Doria is the beloved wife of the late Henry Benoff. Devoted mother of Jennie Minnick (Kevin), Mary Tomlinson (David), Phill Drew (Hazel) and Chris Drew (the late Pat). Grandmother of Rob, Jake, Joe, Emily, Richie, Mickey, Rachel and Jo. Great grandmother of Archie. Dear sister of Eileen Petty (the late Roland). Sister-in-law of Estelle Chunn (Tony). She also had many other loving relatives and friends she considered family.

Farewell Tribute

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Friday, Sept. 3 from 10 a.m. to noon at the McGuinness Funeral Home (Washington Township location), 573 Egg Harbor Road, Sewell, NJ 08080. Memorial Service at noon. Interment will be private by the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (Doria's Tribute page).
