Obituary of William A. Matthews
William A. Matthews, 57, of Turnersville, New Jersey, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, December 28, 2021.
Legacy
Born in Flemington, New Jersey, Bill has been a resident of Whitman Square since 1971. After graduating from Washington Township High School in 1984, Bill studied at Pinecrest Bible Training Center in New York State and Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Sewell, New Jersey. He has been working as a deliveryman at Jakes on Greentree in Turnersville. He greatly enjoyed working for Roe and interacting with the staff and customers. Bill was a longtime member of the Whitman Square Fire Department and Auxiliary. He was also a long time member of the Amber Terrace Full Gospel Community Church in Pine Hill, NJ.
A kind and loving guy, Bill was a man of faith who was devoted to his family and friends, and loved to make people smile during their darkest times. A big kid at heart, Bill cherished the children is his life and that included his daughter, Samantha, his stepdaughter,Amanda, his nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Every year since 1986, Bill and his extended family traveled to Chincoteague, Virginia where they made many cherished memories. He enjoyed hanging out with family and friends, camping, clamming and making his famous spaghetti with clam sauce. He was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan which made for interesting game talk with his friends who were Eagle fans. Bill liked to keep life interesting. He will be dearly missed for his fun loving ways and offbeat sense of humor.

Beloved father of Samantha Matthews and stepfather of Amanda Gerber; loving son of Charles R. and Mary A. (nee Keating) Matthews; dear brother of Chuck (Karen) and John (Tina); cherished uncle of Nicole (Vinnie), Marcus, Zoe, Kimberly, John Paul, Brendan, Emily, Connor, Elizabeth, Rebecca and great uncle of Aubrey, Skyla, Gavin, Vincenzo, Gianna and Taylor. Bill is also survived by many loving, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and especially John and Ruth Abbruzzese. and his beloved furry friend, Coco.
Farewell Tribute
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bill’s visitation on Thursday, January 6, 2022, 6:00 – 7:00 PM at the McGuinness Funeral Home, 573 Egg Harbor Road, Sewell, NJ, where the Memorial Ceremony will follow at 7:00 PM.
