Obituary of Thomas J Morris, Jr.
Thomas J. Morris, Jr., 93, of Gibbstown, New Jersey, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022.
Legacy
Born in Woodbury, New Jersey in 1928, Thomas grew up in the Red Bank section of Thorofare by the Delaware River which he loved until the day he died, built his own home with his own hands in Colonial Manor when he left active duty, and was a resident of Gibbstown from 1963 until the day he died in the home he also built. He graduated from Paulsboro High School in 1946 and was a proud United States Army Veteran and served from 1946 – 1948, with the 63rd Signal Operations Battalion in Germany and Austria. Thomas was a longtime parishioner of St. Michael's RC Church in Gibbstown and the oldest member of the VFW Jordan Post in Verga. He was a former member of the Colonial Manor Fire Department. He was an Owner/Member of the Audubon Rod & Gun Club in Chatsworth. In 1949, Thomas took over the family business, Eagle Point Gun/TJ Morris and Son from his father and then handed the business over to his son in 1991, Thomas J. Morris III. He was also employed first on the dynamite line and then as a Union Pipe Fitter with DuPont Repauno Works in Gibbstown from 1951 – 1984 when he retired from Du Pont.
An honest, kind and jovial gentleman, Thomas was a true people person and a born salesman. He made friends easily and thoroughly enjoyed the art of a good conversation. He could talk a statue to death!! Thomas always had the knack for making folks feel comfortable and being there to lend a helping hand. He loved his family, his Country, his church, the stock market, firearms, hunting, dogs, small boats, fast cars, carpentry, chain saws, fireplaces and woodstoves as well as spending time on the river gathering and cutting firewood year round. But more important than what he loved was that everyone loved him!
Family
Son of the late Thomas J. Morris Sr. and Anna (Jennie) Morris (nee Lowry), beloved husband of 63 years to the late Phyllis J. (nee Doerrmann); loving father of Thomas J. Morris III and devoted grandfather of Andrew and Thomas IV.
