Obituary of Gary A. Kuehnapfel, Sr.
Gary A Kuehnapfel, of West Deptford, New Jersey, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 25, 2022. He was 71.
Legacy
Gary was born in the town of Patuxent River, Maryland and graduated from Pascack Valley High School in 1969. Following high school, Gary entered the United States Air Force where he served his country faithfully until his honorable discharge in the Summer of 1973. After leaving the Air Force he attended the Academy of Aeronautics where he earned his Associates Degree in Electronics and was also listed in “Who’s Who in American Junior Colleges”. On September 14,1974 Gary married the love of his life, Diane, and they spent nearly 47 years at each other’s side.
After moving to Wingdale, New York, Gary welcomed his first son, Gary Kuehnapfel, Jr., in 1977 and his second son, Carl, in 1982 after relocating to West Deptford. Gary was active in his community, coaching soccer and volunteering with school functions for both of his sons.
In his retirement, Gary was a dedicated volunteer for the Gloucester County Democrats. He loved debating, following and discussing politics…so much so that the Gloucester County Democrats bestowed him a special chair in the office that he used while making hundreds of phone calls to local voters every year. Gary was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Woodbury Heights and he loved singing in the choir, playing hand bells, and helping the church in any way he could - from changing the message on the sign board outside to ringing the bell for the start of service. In his personal time, Gary enjoyed taking trips to the family home in Wallenpaupack Lake Estates; spending time with family, swimming, and taking boat rides on the big lake. As a huge sports fan, Gary loved watching Eagles games, cheering excitedly when the team scored and giving them the benefit of the doubt in every game hoping that they would ultimately emerge victorious. Gary enjoyed afternoon trips to the movies with his wife, Diane, visiting with his family and had no greater joy than spending time with his grandson CJ. Gary loved helping people whether it was his family, friends, or others in need, and he would do everything possible to give someone a helping hand. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.
