Obituary of Laurie McGonigle
Laurie Beth McGonigle (Aregood), of Woodbury Heights, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side, on Wednesday, September 7, 2022. She was 58.
Legacy
A pet lover, Laurie inspired countless tail wags and purrs from a cast of furry characters over the years. She surrounded herself with unconditional love, and she generously shared it with family and friends.
Laurie was a child of the 1960s raised in a house filled with music, and her early enthusiasm for the Beatles, David Bowie and other classic rock artists laid the foundation for a lifetime love of song. Laurie also loved reading, so much so that her family is left wondering what to do with all the books.
Laurie worked 38 years at what is now Wells Fargo Bank. Her job titles changed about as frequently as the name of her employer as mergers reshaped Philadelphia banking. She got her start as an administrative assistant, making her rise to assistant vice president a big source of professional pride.
Still, nothing made Laurie prouder than her daughter and only child, Megan. As Megan was growing up, Laurie reveled in exposing her to a world of wonder through trips to museums, zoos and aquariums. Laurie was Megan’s biggest cheerleader, and she made that apparent in June when she willed herself through recent health challenges to take part in Megan’s wedding.
Laurie’s love of family and close relationship with her mother led her to live within walking distance of her childhood home. She enjoyed hosting family pool parties, where her husband’s grilling skills and eagerness to serve allowed Laurie to sit and chat.
Of the many critters Laurie invited into her life, none won her heart quite like a golden retriever named Angel. We can only hope that heaven affords them the opportunity to reunite.
