Obituary of Irene T. Phelps

Irene T. Phelps (nee Taylor), 91, of West Deptford, New Jersey, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

Legacy

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Irene was a resident of West Deptford since 1960.  Devoted to her faith, Irene was a longtime active parishioner of St. Matthew’s RC Church in National Park.  Irene shared her faith with Marriage Encounter, Cursillo, prayer group and many young children of the parish as a CCD teacher.  She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, PTA and the bookkeeper at St. Matt’s for many years.

With her loving, kind and compassionate nature, Irene made an impact on so many lives. She was selfless and generous of her time and her talents by volunteering with Gloucester County ARC and donating knitted blankets to preemies that she lovingly knitted herself.  Family members will cherish blankets, sweaters and booties that were knitted by her skilled hands.

But more than anything, Irene treasured the time spent with her family…especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She had a knack with numbers and dates and nothing made your day more than Irene reaching out to you with a meaningful card and phone call to make your day even more special.  Her Happy Birthday voice messages were sure to bring a smile and virtual hug.

Farewell Tribute

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Irene's viewing on Tuesday evening 9/13, 6:30 – 9:00 PM and Wednesday morning, 9/14, 8:30 – 10:00 AM at the  McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury, NJ .  Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, 11:00 AM at Holy Angels Parish at St. Matthew's RC Church, 4th and Monument Avenue National Park, NJ.  Interment at New Saint Mary's Cemetery, Bellmawr, NJ.
