Obituary of Aida Jurado Cortez Cervantes
Aida Jurado Cortez Cervantes, of Deptford, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, on her 53rd Wedding Anniversary. She was 84. Aida was the kindest, sweetest, patient, loving, talented & devoted wife, mother & lola to her family. She had the joyous laughter that filled the room with the biggest heart & smile to everyone she met.
Aida was well known for her love of cooking. She cooked professionally, as well as a home cook for her family. She loved baking from apple pies, pumpkin pies to cream puffs to Filipino puto to lots of main dishes. You name it, she made it and loved to try out new recipes all the time. Aida would make sure when you come to her house that you were greeted by her Filipino cooking. She would say, “Come, come and eat” … Then even pack you food to go when you leave… She loved catering family parties all by herself and she woke up daily around 3:00 AM to cook today’s lunch & tonight’s dinner before going to work, so that her children and her mother had something to eat before she came home. Professionally, she worked full time throughout her life in the food industry, as a dietitian, nutritionist and food service instructor. One of the main dishes at Hahnemann University Hospital, was “Pancit” she placed on the menu, the people just loved her Filipino cooking. She also loved to teach her students how to cook in an educational kitchen, afterwards, she brought home lots of cakes, cinnamon buns, and desserts. She loved her family and was so happy all the time to give them all the food she made, even to her extended relatives, sisters, brother-in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Aida also loved sewing, crocheting & knitting. She made things from blankets, pillowcases, and clothing to even clothes for her daughters’ dolls & lots of scrunchies hair accessories for her two daughters too.
Aida was a devoted Catholic and her faith was most important to her. She prayed daily and made sure her children had religious materials for their home alters and raised to be good and kind.
Aida was a loving Lola to her grandson and granddaughter, she helped raise, watch and feed them, and also gave them so much love, kisses and hugs. They each got her Cortez curls from her.
Lastly, Aida’s favorite color was green, ever since her children were born, they all knew her as her love of green eyeshadow, to clothes to jewelry, and her love the Philadelphia Eagles football team too. She loved watching them with her husband and children and cheered for them all the time.
