Obituary of James J. Bastien
James J. Bastien, 78, of National Park, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 11, 2023.
Legacy
Jim was born and raised in National Park, NJ and was a graduate of Woodbury High School, Class of 1963. Jim loved fishing, crabbing and boating as well as working on cars, and coaching his children's softball & baseball teams while they were growing up. He loved spending time with his grandchildren & attending their sporting events & functions.
He was an original member of the New Jersey Corvette Club.
He was a proud combat Marine Veteran and served our country in Vietnam & was awarded various medals and accommodations for his service. During his tour, he became a helicopter pilot and was the crew chief. His time spent in the Marine Corps left a strong foundation for him and over his life, he has dedicated himself to many Veteran groups and organizations. He was honored for his heroic service on the USS Yorktown in South Carolina, a member of the Marine Corps League 1775 Detachment, Oaklyn and was also a member of the Devil Dogs.
Family
He is the beloved husband of 55 years to Amelia "Amy" Bastien (nee Uzzo); loving father of Melissa Bastien, Jamie Bastien, James "Jim" Bastien, Jr. and the late Sean Bastien; proud "pop-pop" of Dustin Danielle & Chase; devoted brother to Howard (Janet) Bastien, Georgene Gray, Robert (Nancy) Bastien, Elizabeth Keller (Roger) and the late JoAnn DeCampli(Tom). Jim also leaves behind his beloved pup Cujo.
Farewell Tribute
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation in the McGuinness Funeral Home - Woodbury, 34 Hunter Street, on Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 6-8 PM and again on Friday, June 23, 2023 from 10:30-11:30 AM. Funeral Service will begin at 11:30 AM on Friday. Interment will follow at New St. Mary's Cemetery, Bellmawr, NJ.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Detachment #1775 Marine Corp Detachment, c/o American Legion Post 705, Newton Avenue, Oaklyn, NJ 08107 or : Semper Fidelis Detachment, 344 Harvey Avenue, Wenonah, NJ 08090.
