Joan Dickinson

Obituary of Joan F. Dickinson

Joan Dickinson, 85, of Clayton.

Graduate of Springfield High School. Life-long employee of Acme Markets, she possessed multiple talents- from the luncheon meat counter to the smelly fish counter, and beef wrapping- but absolutely never the cash register. Post retirement, she happily worked at Edible Arrangements; learning the art of fresh cut fruit baskets, chocolate covered fruit, and making life-long friends.

Joan was the most giving, loving, accepting, and amazing person to grace our lives.

Die-hard Phillies’ fan, Christmas over-decorator, Boston tourist, cruising expert, room service loving, Disney traveler, she eternally had her bags packed and ready for any trip that came along. Joan is forever the best sidecar rider, water and heights fearer, trusting companion, taste-tester, crab cake loving, Rodney nagging, conversationalist, Elvis lover, unsuspecting gossip queen,  red lipstick wearing, hater of rodents, Target loving, supportive friend and idol, animal adopting fiend (especially dogs), technologically incompetent, 10 minute-snoozy pro, smart-aleck jokester, queen of dad jokes, cheetah wearer (thanks Holly), spicy sistah, movie buff (especially Dirty Dancing), onion pie loving, Snapchat filter victim. Nanny- forever missed but never.

Nanny was the grandmother of all grandmothers, there for everything that her “little angels” were involved in, and they could do no wrong. She did not lose her temper or patience, not even when Lindsay re-grouted her table with Play-doh, Colin, the greatest guitarist of music not understood, Holly with her Holly-tude, and Tyler’s long baseball games in the frigid cold. The perfect lunch date and  travel companion, she knew how to live life to its fullest. When life handed her hardships, such as breast cancer, Joan persevered and overcame.

Beloved mother to Kathleen “Missy” Brown (late Rodney), devoted grandmother of Kimberly (John), Thomas “TJ”, Lindsay (Favian),  Colin (Elizabeth), Holly, Tyler (Katelyn), and Philip. Official spoiler to great grandchildren: Torin, Ariella, and Sean Hamlette, along with all future little ones.  Nanny, aunt, friend and confidante to whomever she encountered.

Pre deceased by parents Frank and Mary (nee Harkins), siblings Harry and Alma, and son and Thomas.
